Das gleiche wird im Uebrigen auch zukuenftig fuer andere Bereiche gelten, z.B. Netzentgelte bei der Gasversorgung.
Die Stadt @HROrathaus will ja bis 2035 ca. 80% der Haushalte an Fernwärme angeschlossen haben, wie es im Waermeplan der Stadt steht.
Das heisst dann uebrigens auch, dass 20% der Haushalte nicht an das Fernwaermenetz angeschlossen werden.
Wenn diese dann immer noch Gas beziehen, muessen die Kosten fuer die Unterhaltung des Gasnetzes auf diese umgelegt werden.

For me it's time signatures in music. I grew up playing instruments, played in several orchestras, etc. But no matter how many times someone tries to explain time signatures to me, it makes no sense. I don't understand why people place such importance on it. To me, notes have a pitch and a duration, maybe some dynamics. That's it. I don't understand why people try to needlessly complicate it. It doesn't give you anything.
My wife will hear a song and go "Oh neat, it's in 5/8." And I'm like "How tf do you know that, and why does it matter?"

So, the original Mission Impossible theme tune is in 5/4. When U2 re-did it for the 1996 Tom Cruise film, the beginning is in 5/4, and then they transition to a slower 4/4. For most of the "Dee da duuuuuuuuuuuh" sections, as far as I can tell it's just a beat shorter, but the tempo is lower, when they do reprise the Dun! Dun! Da Da! section they use two measures, 8 beats, making it dun dun dun dun da da.
Fun fact: The original dun dun da da was supposed to be "MI" in morse code. --.. dash dash dot dot, with a dash being a beat and a half, a dot being one beat, five beats total. U2 turned it into MMI. ----..
I found that knowing how the clutch works help me visualize what I needed to do to get the car moving.
I fucked up a transmission back in 2000.putting it in gear without pressing the clutch down enough so I stayed away for a few years. When I got a brand new car years later I went back to manual and practiced on a small slope until I got the clutch balance just right and could do super steep hills without even hitting the brake.
You have a spinning plate on the motor and a non spinning plate on the transmission, you press the clutch to separate the plates temporarily, lock the non moving plate into a gear then slowly push the plates back together slowly enough that the moving plate will speed up. If you don't do it fast the slow plate stalls the spinning plate. Balance the plates then you won't stall, do it on a hill and balance it and you can keep the car in a state of not stalling but not moving either, do it wrong and you cook the clutch.
Ah! I think I see what you mean. Well, I night. You mean you don't have a rough sense of what to expect of your answer without just computing it? I'm not 100% sure I do either 😛
But there's some things we can maybe do. The easiest one, in this case, is that we can temporarily play with orders of magnitude and put on a factor of 100 to get 23/7 = ~3 which means when we take that 100 back off your answer is going to be roughly -0.03. And again, that answer comes from leveraging multiplication insights, to aid division. 23 looks like 21, and I know 21 is a multiple of 7.
Any magnitude we add to our numerator is countered by any magnitude we add to our denominator. So if we had 0.23/73, we could multiply by 100 again to get 23/73, and then multiply by 10 again to get 230/73, but we can also equivalently reduce the denominator by a factor of 10, giving us 23/7 ish. We've actually moved by 3 orders of magnitude to get there, so our new "gut" answer is -0.003 ish.
That's my first guess of what you meant. But you did say you needed "actual" solutions. So maybe you didn't mean you wanted an intuition about approximations, and you actually wanted to do the long division?
Just in case, I'll do another worked example of what you might do on paper if you didn't want to use a calculator.
0.23÷7. 7 goes into 0 zero times, easy, that's our ones place solved. 7 goes into 02 zero times as well, so our answer so far is 0.0 and we're moving on to hundredths. 023 is larger than 7, and as before it is recognizably near to 21, a multiple of 7. 7×3 is 21, so our answer so far is 0.03, and our remainder is 23-21=2 (which is actually 0.02, but we keep multiplying things by 10 during the algorithm so we don't have to worry about that). Okay, we move another order of magnitude down and have 20÷7, which again looks a lot like 21, but smaller so we know it's 2. 0.032 and a remainder of 20-14=6. 60÷7 is 8, so 0.0328 and 60-56=4. 40÷7 is 5, 0.03285 with remainder 40-35=5. 50÷7 is 7, so 0.032857 and remainder 50-49=1. 10÷7 is 1, 0.0328571, with 10-7=3. 30÷7 is 4, 0.03285714, remainder 30-28=2. And now we're in trouble. Because we've already seen 2. 20÷7 is 2, remainder 6 again. So it just loops now!
-0.032857142857142857142.....
And that's less of a division problem and more of a problem with decimal numbers rather than fractions. It's simply a limitation of the way we write things. So there isn't an exact numerical answer for this particular division, you just have to decide where is enough decimal places for your application.
I don't know if any of that helped at all... but it's an attempt!
I managed to fix the routine a bit in the past week or so, and had some great nights of sleep, uninterrupted and unmarred by dreams. Feels pretty nice.
I can do a bit of lucid dreaming, in that after waking up and falling asleep again, I'm often aware that I'm dreaming — but full control and consciousness eluded me so far, it's more like the mind racing with random thoughts in half-sleep. So haven't gained anything from it either (and don't quite think I want to).
it's a good attempt too, because i had completely forgot how to do that (mostly because we were taught something called the "chair method" for long division which tends to take up entire pages) and it reminded me of another thing: times tables.
whet i was in school, we got these arithmetic worksheets with times tables on them once a week, (one meek it was 4×n, then 5, then 6...) and we were supposed to do them while being timed. iirc we had five minutes at the start of maths. i don't think i have to tell you how stressful that is with no intuition as well as fine motor issues. anyway, point being, i don't remember ever doing one for division. we went from pieces of pies, to the chair method, to short division problems. now, i've since learned that apparently the worksheet method isn't a good pedagogical tool, but it still feels like we skipped a step.
I kind of have the same but I taught myself to enjoy the moment to moment gameplay and story progression.
I played through Chrono Trigger and all I remember is that it had an awesome soundtrack, there was a frog dude, cool mechanic visiting the same place in different time period and at one point there was a bridge which probably was important. I spent tens of hours and that's the story synopsis I can muster. I still can tell you that I enjoyed playing the game. Storytelling is only one part of entertainment.
Yeah a lot of ways to write it, and that’s part of it - depending on the tempo and phrasing it may be easier or harder to read the music in different time signatures, so there’s some flexibility. Like in 3/4 if you have phrasing that would carry a note from beat three across to beat one of the next bar, in a lot of places, that’s messier to write and read than if it’s e.g a quarter note within a 6/8 bar.
And a whole note is always the length of the bar, so in 6/8 a whole note isn’t eight beats, it’s six. The bottom number represents what length note counts as one beat - in 6/8 an 8th note is one beat (and there would be 6 8th notes per bar) a quarter note is two beats, a half note is three and a whole note is six.
I’m betting different composers had preferences as well.
For sure, yeah. I think that honestly division just isn't as intuitive, for people. It's weird. But you're right, maybe none of it is as intuitive as it feels and it was just the school hammering things in 😛
Like, a classic example, it feels intuitive that 1/3 + 2/6 = 3/9. I know those are fractions and not division, but I think it goes together. And it makes sense why it doesn't work that way if you really dig into it, in this particular example all three of those fractions are actually ⅓, so it's a+a=a, which is only true for a=0. You can draw pictures of pies and stuff, but I do agree it doesn't feel quite as "natural" as addition or multiplication. There is also a giant hole in it with division by zero, which isn't the only time the math runs into and edge, but it is the first one people encounter...

One can be perfectly happy with the concept of beings dying and being eaten, and still feel nothing but disgust about the meat industry.
I tend to eat meat semi-regularly out of convenice and social norms, but I am fully aware of my hypocrisy. Same way as I am typing this on a device that probably contains parts made with essentially slave labour. Doesn't make it better. But at least I can avoid the treadmill of having to have the newest iPhone, or eating as much supermarket steak as possible.
It is just physics. Obviously. Getting the intuition for it is pretty difficult without actually doing it. It requires practice but it's also not just muscle memory. You can figure out a lot of the techniques by thinking about it. It is important to be able to visualise a trick before you have any chance of doing it. It's a constant process of thinking, trying, thinking, trying, and suddenly you just feel it, and only then can you do it.
As for the physics, it's always a battle of opposite forces. Gravity does win, but you can fall with style in the meantime.
I guess most people can juggle a football a few times simply by kicking the ball and then get in the position where the ball lands. A skateboard is the same, only with less room and you being on top of it.
The secret is the Ollie. Your center of gravity is not at your feet, so there's some room to juggle the board underneath you.

I have it the other way around. I recognize the fuck out of people and can never remember their names. I can be like "Oh yeah, that's the dude that so-and-so introduced me to at that BBQ in the park 10 years ago. It was cold that day for fall, he said he was good at the piano. His name? No fucking idea"
Like I can remember so many details about so many things. Names? In one ear and out the other. You could shake my hand and tell me your name and I wouldn't remember it after a 3 minute conversation. But I could repeat everything else about the conversation directly back to you.

they find the concept of someone being genuine and non-bullshitty very upsetting and weird. but if you talk to them in bullshit corpo self-branding speak, they are totally into you.
like I've had 'concerned friends' lecture me on how to bullshittify the way I talk so it's more socially acceptable. like using 'pivot' and 'synergize' when talking about myself, and of course constantly referencing my anxiety about my lack of 'productivity'. or to constantly reference 'how expensive' things in casual conservation to let everyone know I'm wealthy and successful... because if you aren't wealthy what is the point of even being alive?
also if you have a hobby, you can only talk about it reference to how it builds your career or it's your side hustle.

and even if they do, it's typically only temporary. people who get these lifelong deep authentic friendships... are pretty rare and lucky to have the circumstances in life that allowed for that.
like, a lot of people don't have those kinds of relationships and never seek them either, the concept just doesn't exist for them and they live their entire lives on a very surface level understanding of the world.
I don't know about you, but I don't understand how I can develop a deep authentic relationship with people who obsessed with shallow things like their social status and how expensive their car is compared to other people's cars... and that's what dominates the culture in my city. Or who fly into a long winded speech about their anxiety and despair over the fact they only make 350K last year or their stock portfolio only returned 5.5% instead of the 7% their account manager promised them...

You're confusing a bar with a measure. The measure is the smaller interval.
Also, the bottom number is how many beats are in a whole note. Because there are 8 beats in a whole note, that means an eighth note is one beat. A whole note is 8 beats in 6/8 time. Just like it's 4 beats in 3/4.
The top number is how many beats per measure. i.e., 6 eighth notes in 6/8 time; 3 quarter notes in 3/4 time.

About Casting, at least in the granddaddy of programming languages, C, just meant interpreting the value of a variable as if it was a different kind of variable. Important detail is that variables are actually just memory locations and the number of bytes that conform it. So if you have a variable x of type string that holds the letter A, and a variable y also of type string with the letter B, if you do
x+y
You get 'AB'. But if you cast the variables like this:
(int)x + (int)y
You get 131
To put it in words as you asked, you are saying "please add the values located at memory locations x and y, but treat the values found there as if they were numbers, and not the ASCII codes for letters (which is what I had originally told you was there)".
It's been almost 30 years since the last time I actually used this, so I might be recalling something wrong.
I feel you. I've made friends with a couple people like that over the last decade and I consider myself lucky. If I had a formula for making it happen, I'd have a lot more.
For me, that kind of connection is most likely to happen with highly sensitive introverts. That type of personality has an advantage in developing deep relationships. Rare, but not impossible to find while out and about. If all you meet is a single type of personality, I'd take it as a sign to look outside your current social circles.

While I've become quite good at making friends, I am catastrophically bad at romance.
I've achieved one night stands here and there but whenever I get really into someone I end up acting like a nutcase due to anxiety/catastrophizing and I badly fumble. It feels like I can get someone hot that I don't relate too or a fem friend that I'm not attracted to and that's it and its agony.
I get that people remember stories and I don't. I have them in my short them "work memory" and others have them bleed to long term memory. That's great! When my 'cache clears' in a few months or years I don't feel sad I just feel.. enriched?
I no longer consider myself to be adept to judge stories. It's just like music. Others might feel strongly about some style but their likes are not yours and might be completely wrong.
This is not to patronize but to recognize your weakness and enjoy entertainment around it. I'm not a native speaker so I have hard time to convey my point but this is a skill to learn not a hardship to bang your head against. All the best :)

I wanted to learn how to skateboard when I was a kid. I tried for several weeks, with a friend trying to teach me. I got tired of hurting myself, and gave up.
I know people don't "grasp it easily", but most people eventually get the hang of it, and it doesn't seem to take them long.
Over the years I've tried roller skates, ice skates, and skiing. And, failed at all of them.

Swimming two lengths of the pool was a requirement for graduating high school. They got me a college student tutor. I tried and tried and never got good enough to pass. They let me slide, I suppose because they could see I was trying.
Sportzing generally has never been my thing. I learned to ride a bicycle without a problem, and I can throw and catch a frisbee. That's about it.

You may note that I did mention that I have my mise en place before I start cooking. My struggle is entirely in your Step 1: Read the recipe. Making the recipe I can do, I cook and bake every day. Reading it is the struggle.
My ideal cookbook would look like python documentation: "This ~~function~~ step has these inputs and these outputs. Here is the typical use case."

I've only learned to drive fairly recently so I still remember getting to the point where I'm sort of comfortable with manual shifting. There's two ways of doing it (that I know of). The simple way: Put it in first gear, then very slowly let the clutch go, don't touch any other pedal. You'll find some point where it engages and the car starts creeping forward. A bit further an you're out of the danger zone and can drive normally. Took me a bunch of tries but I'm reasonably fast with it now without fear of stalling the engine.
The other one is mostly the same idea, but you start accelerating pretty much right when it's engaging, without really waiting for creep happening. I've actually found that easier on some cars, but it's also a great way of creating interesting noises.

Yes, pretty much.
If a note is a letter and a measure is a word, then a bar is like a sentence. Typically 4 or more measures make up a bar, and they sometimes span more than one line. When you see a measure that ends with two vertical lines, that's the end of a bar.
I actually spent some time thinking about this. I guess it's because I was a developer for 17 years before I ever heard about lambda calculus or functional programming, and it was really difficult for me to wrap my brain around it.
I like immutability, and discriminated unions, and I can handle monads, but a lot of the rest of it gets too far into the weeds for me. Writing a function that is just a single return statement that chains together a bunch of map and reduce calls just doesn't click for me.
"If it compiles, it works." Yeah, I've never found that to be true. And don't get me started on how you can't debug chained calls when something inevitably goes sideways.
Once I heard someone say "a monad is a monoid in the category of endofunctors" I was officially out. No thanks. Not for me.

Ah, that makes more sense. I have that problem too. I started trying to act like people renowned for their kindness, like Mr. Rogers, for example.
He says positive affirmations (wow, you're really smart), is patient when the other person is talking, gives them room to express their thoughts and feelings, asks them questions about themselves, and, most importantly, acknowledges that their feelings are real and difficult for them. I "practice" that with kids: "The dark must be very scary for you; that scrape must really hurt," usually followed by a hug if appropriate.
You're just agreeing with them about how they feel, and that lets them know that their feelings count, that their feelings matter to another human, and that mattering to other humans is what everyone needs to feel safe.
Also, never give advice until someone asks for it.
Never give an answer to questions no one asked.

Kindness is a muscle, and yours (ours) is weak. Exercise it to make it stronger. It will take time and practice. We got this.

See, that actually IS helpful to me, and probably why I prefer certain recipe websites to cookbooks.

Every recipe I've seen will either be written "in a large bowl mix flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder." Meaning all of the ingredients you've portioned out. If the recipe calls for the same ingredient in more than one step, it will say so. "Mix 2 cups of flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder in a large bowl." Then it'll specify "add remaining flour" or "add 1 cup flour" in some later step. Some might also mention that in the ingredients list, like "1 1/3 cup sliced strawberries, 2/3 cup for cake, 2/3 cup for topping."
I just wish 99% of the web page around the recipe would fuck off. I want a ONE SENTENCE description of the dish as it might appear on a restaurant menu, the time to prep and cook, the yield/portion size, the parts list and procedure. I don't want a fake story of someone's travels or family life, I don't want a geography lecture, and if you're going to write a long form essay on the process a la the script for an episode of a cooking show, put that AFTER the recipe itself, not before. Let me see the damn parts list in the top mile or so of the page.
Only by being yourself you can find people who like you for who you are rather than who you pretend to be. Nobody can beat you at being you but you can only be the second best at pretending to be someone else.
I take that to mean that if you are weird then embrace it. That attracts other similarly weird people and those are the best kind. There's no point in being liked for being someone you're not so why pretend.

first, reverse image search (with picdetective.com). checking exact matches, well it's a lot of exact matches, reposted a trillion times with no source in sight. but the website bugged out a bit and seemed to show a second picture: same thing, in daylight of a city or something.
so i threw that second picture with a slightly different perspective, location, and daylight, and more exact matches! but... nothing to see with exact matches.

On Sept 8th, as soon as one of the pharmacies got the new vaxx. There was *not* a line. Nor for the flu, which we'd gotten already (not having a big family holiday thing planned, we wanted it early, too.)

You can get them privately in England if you don’t meet any of the NHS eligibility criteria.
Though there will be those that can’t afford them of course. I think I paid something like £110 earlier this year. It’s probably about time I had another.

I’ve been thinking about this more, and while I support visibility of any covid awareness, it might be good in future polls to have an option for “Masking or other mitigations.”
There are people, like my girlfriend with Long COVID, who do bot respond well to the vaccine. But she sure as hell takes all precautions on occasions she has to go out.
I just think it gives a bigger picture as to who still is trying not to get covid (or get it as bad, since the vax doesn’t prevent infect.)

So was last Spring's.
Until this year, I got my annual COVID and flu shots in fall. Now, will have to check w/ my doctor.
This summer, the German Vaccination Commission (STIKO) changed the recommendation to people aged 75+ and vulnerable individuals. General immunity across the population has gone up to 95% due to vaccinations and past infections, so for healthy individuals under 75, the risk is considered low.
What strikes me is that in some countries the shots are either very expensive, or not covered by healthcare. Over here, they're covered, and even with private insurance, the jab is fixed price €13,58. £110 sounds scary.
I and my Dad are incredibly bloomin' vulnerable so I'd be the hypocrite to end all hypocrites if I didn't!

@LevelUp My girlfriend who is immunocompromised does my research. She felt, at least a few years ago that NovaVax was slightly better for new variants.
However I have no hard current data to point to now, I’m sorry to say. And I don’t know if you can mix after having had one for some time.

Careful with that. COVID isn't seasonable like the flu. I've been working off of the theory that "the best time to get your booster is now".

There were some episodes of TWIV that looked at lasting immune response, but the data is likely to come from mostly people who went through some infections as well as boosters. Iirc any booster is better than none; and boosters with other vaccines than you had before is preferrable because it induces a new impulse to vary and mature the memory immune response.
@colorblindcowboy You can definitely mix them up (at least after the initial first-and-second-dose if your original vax was set up that way). There's even potential advantages to it, since they give your immune system a slightly different thing to react to / 'learn' from.
Where I am it's hard to get anything other than Pfizer but I'm fine with that, my attitude is any [medically approved] vaccine is better than no vaccine. And we still get them for free every six months so can't complain about that.
@colorblindcowboy honestly I am always interested in the opinions of other immunocompromised folk because COVID has killed and put my family in hospital. It's left many people disabled and every time someone catches it it's like an awful gamble.
I'm scared by how some folks have forgotten this, you know? But also seeing the cost of the vaccine, it's a lot for people to afford. It's prohibitively expensive.

I got a booster from RokotePalvelu earlier this year. Fully paid out of pocket.
I can afford it. A lot of people can't. Most people have been led to believe they don't need them. I hope I can get another one for this autumn/winter but I don't really know.
Finnish "public health" authorities have implemented a policy of vaccine austerity gas lighting the population.
At times it has been impossible to get boosters at any price unless you are in very narrowly defined risk groups.
I know immuno-compromised people who have had to travel to Estonia to get a booster.
@zombiecide @colorblindcowboy @LevelUp For me, the big advantage of Nuvaxovid (the vaccine developed by Novavax) is that my only side effect is a sore spot on my arm. I never experience chills with Nuvaxovid. This is especially important at this time of year, when my apartment building has air conditioning running that I cannot fully turn off. It is cold at home!
I also like supporting Novavax/Sanofi because I think that it is important to have multiple sources of covid vaccines. More manufacturers means more competition. That may eventually lead to lower prices and better quality vaccines. It will also give consumers the freedom to boycott any vaccine manufacturer that behaves especially badly. Without competition, we would be stuck buying vaccines from whichever company had a monopoly.
Anyway, I love Nuvaxovid and will be getting another dose soon. That said, any vaccine is probably better than no vaccine.

I got my booster last Sunday, and it wasn't ideal, but I figured it was better than nothing. Since protection only evidently lasts a few months, I figured maybe I can get something newer next time. My doctor is fine with me going for a higher frequency, given that I'm in an at-risk category.
@Lkdc @zombiecide @LevelUp All good points. I don’t remember having bad reactions to the Nova. My initial jab was with Moderna, and I experienced some bad pain the first night.
Also, yeah, Nova is not the biggest player, so it supports some market competition.
My partner is on two different immunosuppressant meds, and as a result of that, I am permitted to keep getting them.
I've gotten the covid shot together with the flu shot the last couple of years.
I guess I will have to pay for it. I am no longer entitled to get it for free (they changed the age to 75 years of age).

@Edelruth @gavin57 Also the UK uses a very strict definition of "immunosuppressed" which means that merely "immune compromised" people are excluded.
I'm about to drop £70 each on this year's Covid boosters for my household via private healthcare, I'm glad I can afford to do this but it's no herd immunity strategy.

The disability part is no joke, and I wish there was better information about it or that people would read what’s there.

I've been getting my flu shot for almost 70 years, since when the syringes were glass and reusable.
They're not available on the NHS for people my age who aren't immunocompromised.
I had all the ones that were offered to me - 4 altogether I think. And I remain a NOVID (that I know of) so far.
I'm not trying to avoid it or anything, but no. The strange thing is that now that you mention it, it's been more than two years since anyone I know came down with COVID.
Still, I'll ask next time I'm at my primary care office. I had it once, and while I recovered fully, it was no fun at all. The only thing I've ever had that was worse was mono. Even Zika wasn't a big deal compared with COVID.

- Persönlich finde ich Informationen rund um meine Themen (Bioinformatik, HPC, OpenScience, etc.) hier im Fediverse wertvoll und möchte sie nicht missen.
Die Begründung für das Fediverse hängt ein bisschen davon, ab wo die Leute stehen, die man überzeugen möchte.

@Jens Kube ich glaube, das wird nicht so gut funktionieren, weil viele (so wie ich auch) denken "Mit so einem Null-Beitrag" will ich mir nicht die Timeline vollballern.
Außerdem ist der Hauptunterschied zu den großen Datensilos ja auch, das hier unter interessanten Beiträgen viel mehr Diskussionen stattfinden als unter Insta/FB/usw. Beiträgen. Um im Fediverse echte "Reichweite" zu bekommen muss man interessantes, das zu Diskussionen einlädt veröffentlichen und, ganz wichtig, man muss sich an diesen Diskussionen auch beteiligen. Das Fediverse ist keine "Verlautbarungsplattform". Schau Dir z.B. mal das Profil von Ulrich Kelber an um zu sehen wie es gut funktioniert und gemacht wird.
Und wenn Du sehen möchtest, wie aktiv (und größtenteils doch gesittet) Diskussionen hier ablaufen können, verfasse mal einen Beitrag zum Thema Fahrradfahren und Helmpflicht, versehen mit entsprechenden Hashtags. Da hast Du ganz schnell einen Thread mit hundert Kommentaren und diversen Diskussionssträngen. 
#mastodon ist das einzige #SozialenNetzwerken welches ich neben Foren und Blogs nutze.

Ich verstehe das so: Subdomain bei Azure,ndie wird dann durch den Owner woandershin umgezogen ohne dabei auch die Zone bei Azure zu löschen.
Somit zeigt DNS noch dorthin, Einträge bestehen weiterhin und MS erzwingt kein proof of ownership wenn dein Azure Nachbar-Tenant seine eigenen Einträge mit zuvor durch dich (den eigentlichen Owner) verwalteten Subdomains, oder neuen, ergänzt. Und er kann auch Einträge hinzufügen die es zuvor nicht gab.
total-unbedenklich.login.neu.mckinsey.digital zeigt somit etwa eine Thai online gambling Seite.

Jein. Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe ist es peinlich für Azure, doch user error nicht ursächlich.
Ich kann grad nicht tiefer einsteigen, muss Bewerbungen schreiben. Hat jemand schon Testfälle geschrieben?
Das weiß ich in der Tat nicht. Wir wurden angeschrieben.
Jetzt bauen wir uns selber ein Monitoring: Die Kollegen der Fachabteilung lesen aus, welche Subdomains *.example.com sie verwenden. Dann haben sie ein deploy token für das Gitlab-Repository, in dem die Zone example.com liegt, so daß sie sehen können, welche Zonen zu Azure delegiert sind.
Am Ende sind es zwei Dinge, die problematisch sind

Was ich noch erwähnen sollte: Das Video ist Resultat einer gewaltigen Nachbearbeitungs-Orgie, die ich ohne das tolle GIMP-Plugin „Batcher“ kamilburda.github.io/batcher/ nicht hinbekomenn hätte.
Eigentlich hatte ich die Sonnenvideos nach „Sonnenkoordinaten“ ausgerichtet, also Sonnennordpol ist oben. So mache ich das immer bei meinen Sonnenaufnahmen. Als Orientierung nutze ich dazu das Weißlichtbild der Sonne der NASA unter soho.nascom.nasa.gov/sunspots/ .
Da die größten Sonnenflecken in einer Linie stehen, habe ich mich verguckt und das Video in Firecapture vertikal gespiegelt. War ja auch plausibel, das Sonnenprisma bringt ja ein Spiegelung in den Strahlengang.
Für die normalen Sonnenbilder konnte ich den Fehler durch erneutes „Y Flip“ ausgleichen, aber bei den Flugzeugsequenzen standen die Tragflächen durch die „Sonnenausrichtung“ nicht horizontal. Hier ein Bild aus dem Originalvideo:
Also das originale SER-Video in Einzelbilder zerlegt und mit dem obigen GIMP-Plugin folgende Arbeitsschritte als Stapelverarbeitung ausgeführt:
Das hat auch eine gute Weile gedauert (ca. 1 h), nur um festzustellen, dass die Idee mit Stretch Contrast HSV bei einem einzelnen Bild gut ist, aber bei einem Film nicht funktioniert. Wenn man den Kontrast maximal streckt, orientiert sich der Algorithmus natürlich an dem „hellsten“ Pixel. Durch das übliche Bildrauschen, schwankt dieser Wert aber von Frame zu Frame. Das führt zu einem sichtbaren Flackern der Gesamthelligkeit im fertigen Video. Also habe ich diesen (eigentlich auch unnötigen) Schritt weggelassen und habe eine manuelle Kontraststreckung mit festem Wert für alle Frames über die Levels-Funktion abgebildet.
Das Einfärben erfolgte dann durch verschiedene Einstellungen für die Blau- und Rotkurve in „Curves“.
Leider habe ich in Batcher keine Möglichkeit gefunden den Modus der Einzelbilder von Graustufen auf RGB umzustellen, so dass ich das vorher auch schon per
mogrify -define png:format=png24 -type TrueColor *.png
erledigt hatte.
Zum Schluss musste ich dann nur noch die Einzelbilder mittels ffmpeg zu einem Video zusammenfügen und das Resultat kennt ihr.
Alles in allem war das ca. 5 h Arbeit, inkl. Rechenzeit, Suche nach dem Plugin, Einarbeiten ins Plugin, Finden der richtigen Parameter für die Batchverarbeitung etc.

@Wolfgang Strobl Danke, Du sprichst mir aus der Seele. Ich habe jetzt schon vielen Leuten empfohlen, das Video unbedingt auf einem großen Bildschirm zu betrachten. Das Video z.B. nur auf dem Smartphone zu betrachten ist Perlen vor die Säue werfen. Man gibt sich Mühe, aus der Technik das maximale Ergebnis herauszuholen, und dann schauen die Leute auf ihre Mäusekinos und können evtl. nur 1/5 der Auflösung überhaupt wahrnehmen. Das ist schade.
Ich finde den strukturellen Kontrast zwischen der „rauen“ Sonnengranulation und den „weichen“ Kondensstreifen, die sich darüber erst verwirbeln und dann langsam wieder auflösen, am ansprechendsten. Das ist irgendwie ein Genuss für die Augen, auch weil der Kontrast so stark ist. Normalerweise sieht man weiße Kondensstreifen auf einem hellblauen Himmel und nicht pechschwarze über einer hellgelben Sonne.
Das Bild aus der Kamera ist deutlich „flacher“, wie man weiter oben am Graustufenbild sieht. Daher mache ich bei den Sonnenaufnahmen stets eine Kontrastanhebung über die Werte-/Levels-Funktion von GIMP. Das verstärkt die Randverdunklung der Sonne und verdeutlicht die Kugelgestalt besser.
Ich weiß nicht genau, was Du mit „in Bewegung“ meinst. Wenn Du Dich beim Betrachten bewegst oder die minimale Bewegung der Sonne durch den Nachführfehler, weil die Montierung nur grob eingenordet war?
Das Video selbst läuft um den Faktor 1,67 schneller als in Echtzeit, weil ich nur mit 17–18 FPS filmen konnte und das Flugzeug bei dieser Framerate deutlich über die Sonne „ruckelt“. Daher habe ich die Framerate auf die computerüblichen 30 FPS erhöht, für ein flüssiges Ergebnis.
Leider ist das Ende dieses Videos auch das wirkliche Ende der eigentlichen 30-Sekunden-Aufnahme. Ein paar Sekunden mehr wären toll gewesen, dann hätten sich die Kondensstreifen komplett aufgelöst. Aber man kann nicht alles haben und ich hatte eh schon mehr als Glück.
Aber wenn ich mal Langeweile habe, kann ich ein neues Video machen, wo ich den Anfang der 30-Sekunden-Sequenz noch mal mitnehme. Das Resultat wäre dann ca. doppelt so lange. :)

I wonder if the result isn't tainted because the authors used a chatbot while assessing the quality of the essays: (My emphasis.)
We used electroencephalography (EEG) to assess cognitive load during essay writing, and analyzed essays using NLP, as well as scoring essays with the help from human teachers and an AI judge (a specially built AI agent).
I'm wary of the paper. It's 216 pages (of slop padding?) and the second sentence is "Like any other tool, [an LLM] carries its own set of
advantages and limitations."
I disagree that LLMs are tools like any other. They are a political project.
There's a helpful section "How to read this paper as a Human" whose second bullet is:

Why the helpful pandering?
The whole thing smells sloppy to me. But maybe I'm too strongly biased against the authors' apparent stance that use of LLM chatbots is reasonable.

I’m not saying people should learn AI first, not by a long shot. But the “it makes things too easy” is an argument decades old about every new technology.
There is plenty to complain about with AI without resorting to the simple “hate it because it’s new.”
Education is about transforming, and being transformed, for the sake of understanding.
It is ridiculously wrong to treat the required personal, transformational work as something to be relegated in the name of efficiency while dropping everything personal and transformational.

Ich will mich zum Thema #KI auch mal äußern. Schließlich forschen und lehren wir in diesem Bereich.
Ein Punkt, der in der Berichterstattung und Diskussion meines Erachtens viel zu wenig Beachtung findet:
Da rollt eine riesige Welle auf uns zu. Eine Welle ungeahnten Ausmaßes und mit verheerenden Folgen für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Die Welle der Inkompetenz.
Kurzer Realitätsabgleich: Bei uns an der Uni sind vorlesungsbegleitende Übungen, Fachpraktika und Seminare effektiv tot. Ob Programmieraufgaben, Übungsblätter oder Textarbeit - der Anteil an KI-generierten Abgaben liegt (geschätzt, denn genau sagen kann man das nie) zwischen 90% und 100%. Studis lassen ganze Bachelor- und Master-Arbeiten von KI erstellen. Code und Ausarbeitung sowieso, aber auch inklusive der ebenfalls notwendigen Vortragsfolien. Wir hatten den ersten Studi, der im persönlichen Betreuungsgespräch (keine Prüfung!) nicht mal mehr selbst geantwortet hat. Der hatte währenddessen ChatGPT offen und hat unsere Fragen einfach weitergereicht und uns die Antworten vorgelesen. Ohne Scham. Stellt man diesen Studis nur eine Nachfrage, z.B. zu ihrem Code - keine Antwort/Ahnung.
Wir bilden insofern gerade eine Generation von Studis aus (bzw. die sich selbst), die keine Kompetenz hat und nichts genuin kann, d.h. keine auf Wissen und Verständnis basierte Expertise, außer eine KI zu bedienen.
Die ersten dieser Studis gehen jetzt in den Arbeitsmarkt. Der oben genannte mit ChatGPT ist anscheinend bei der Deutschen Bank untergekommen. Die Leute arbeiten dort vermutlich genau so weiter, werden irgendwann auch Chef:in. Erwarten von ihren Mitarbeitenden dann auch nichts anderes. Das ist eine Katastrophe.
Nur für eine Gruppe von Leuten nicht. Nämlich die, die jetzt diesem Trend entgegengehen und es schaffen, sich wirklich selbst Dinge zu erarbeiten, zu verstehen und zu durchdenken, und auf dieser Basis auch Neues zu erschaffen. Meine Erwartung/Vorhersage: Diese Leute werden in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft hart umworben werden, sich jeden Job aussuchen können und sehr gut bezahlt werden.
Alle anderen, befürchte ich, werden mit ihren selbstgewählten Inkompetenz in der Bedeutungslosigkeit verschwinden, wenn KI keine "ausgeklügelten" Prompts mehr braucht.

Hoffentlich hast du Recht damit, dass Leute, die selbst denken bald gefragt sein werden.
Es gibt leider richtig viel schlechte Lehre an meiner Uni. In einem Unipraktikum war der Betreuer praktisch nie da, hat uns davon abgeraten, ihn um Hilfe zu bitten und konnte schlechter helfen als KI. Absolut unterirdisch. Teile des Kurses waren ohne KI kaum machbar, weil das nötige Wissen nirgends aufbereitet bzw. auffindbar ist.
Oder sie werden #€xUPolitiker am besten #Bundeskanzler
Da scheinen Inkompetenz, absolute Abwesenheit von auch nur irgendwelchem Wissen über irgendwelche Zusammenhänge gepaart mit arrogantem Anspruchsdenken / "Frechheit siegt" zum Berufsbild zu gehören.

Meine bisherige Erfahrung: unter wachsendem Druck ist kaum jemand bereit, sich gegen eine totale Abhängigkeit von BigTech zu stellen (stadt-zuerich.ch/de/aktuell/me… ). Praxis- und Resultat-orientiert bedeutet dann auch bei KI eine Monopol-Dominanz.

Wie es der Zufall will, war #KI gerade gestern auch wieder Thema auf einem der unzähligen Sommerfeste. Das Interesse an KI, aber auch die Sorge ist groß und meine Meinung ist bei solchen Events deswegen meist gefragt. So auch gestern.
Einen Punkt wollte ich noch unterstreichen, der schon in manchen Kommentaren unter meinem ursprünglichen Post am Rande aufkam und der auch gestern wieder aufkam:
Was wir heute KI nennen ist ein Tool. Nicht mehr, aber auch nicht weniger. Von wirklicher Intelligenz, so wie wir sie mit dem Vorbild u.a. des Menschen verstehen, sind wir noch meilenweit entfernt. Aber: In den Händen von kompetenten Anwender:innen (siehe Ursprungspost) ist es ein sehr mächtiges Tool, das die Produktivität deutlich steigern kann. Das sehen und erleben wir in unserer Forschung tagtäglich.
Aber nur bei kompetenter Nutzung. In den Händen von inkompetenten Anwender:innen erzeugt es eine fatale Abhängigkeit und ein (oft ungerechtfertigtes) Gefühl von Befähigung, die beide aufgrund der fehlenden, kompetenten Validierung der Ausgaben der KI-Modelle zu fatalen Fehlern führen können. Diese Anwender:innen sind den KI-Tools in gewisser Weise ausgeliefert. Und sie erzeugen auch nicht annähernd vergleichbare Produktivitätssteigerungen. Oft das Gegenteil.
Das ist m.E. die realistischere Sicht auf die aktuellen KI-Modelle - zwischen den oft zu lesenden, aber wenig hilfreichen Extremen der Verteufelung und Vergötterung.

Ubrigens ist dazu parallelen eine vergleichbare Entwicklung im Bereich Handwerk zu beobachten!
Junge Handwerken können heute kaum noch ein Handwerk ausüben, sondern sind "spezialisiert" auf bestimmte Teilbereiche... bzw Marken oder Firmen.
Das zeigt mir eher, daß wir irgendwo als Gesellschaft falsch abgebogen sein müssen.

Als ITler ist es unumgänglich, sich mit aktueller Technologie zu beschäftigen. Und als ITler hast du die notwendige Fachkompetenz zu haben, um das Thema sachlich richtig einzuordnen und zu verwenden.
Mustererkennung und Sprachmodelle werden nicht weggehen, nur weil man die Augen zu macht. Sie sind und werden wichtiger Bestandteil einer modernen Gesellschaft.
Die Alternative ist Butlers Dschihad. Was, wie man nachlesen kann, perspektivisch auch keine gute Idee war.
Ich hab da sehr viel drüber nachgedacht.
Eine per KI erstellte Masterarbeit ist das eine, aber gibt es überhaupt keine praktischen/mündlichen Prüfungen mehr? So jemensch kann doch keinen Abschluss bekommen.
Ich meine: den Wissensstand der Studierenden kann und sollte eine Uni doch trotz KI jederzeit bewerten können.
Das Problem mit KI ist überall das gleiche: Der Wert des (menschlichen) gedanklichen Prozesses wird nicht erkannt
Die Abschlussarbeit wird nur als das Dokument gesehen, das am Ende rauskommt.
Neben der KI als Verheißung liegt das auch an unserer Kultur, die das Erreichen des Ziels weit über dem Gehen des Weges einordnet.
Vor langer Zeit habe ich mal was mit Machine Learning studiert und geforscht, heute arbeite ich in der Veranstaltungstechnik und junge Kollegen schreiben ihre Kanallisten mit ChatGPT.
Gleicher Fehler. Die Kanalliste bestimmt, welches Instrument welches Mikrofon bekommt und in welcher Reihenfolge am Mischpult angeschlossen wird.
Die Liste ist ein wichtiger Plan Aber der Weg zu dieser Liste beinhaltet Wichtigeres… passt das Mic zu der Musikrichtung? Habe ich dieses Mic im Fundus? Habe ich die passenden Stative? Wie sind die Kabelwege?
Von dem her mache ich als Alter Mann™ mir um meine Zukunft keine Sorgen. Wenn mein Selberdenken zum Alleinstellungsmerkmal wird… umso besser.
… andererseits, als ich noch in der Software-Entwicklung arbeitete, war ein Problem, dass ich zu gut arbeiten wollte. Ich war laufend zu teuer.
Das ist ein Problem als Inhaltsmensch, wenn man sich wirklich für gute Arbeit interessiert, Probleme durchdenken und gut und auch nachhaltig (*ilities und so, damals) lösen will, dann ist man fehl am Platz.
Und genau hier haben auch Mitarbeiter, die alle Arbeit mit KI schnell hervorwürgen, eben einen Vorteil in unserer Kultur.
Alles so billig und so schlecht wie gerade noch möglich, und den höchstmöglichen Preis erlangen. Das ist die Art von Kapitalismus, die die Liebe zur Arbeit tötet.
Also besser das Herz erst gar nicht dran hängen und überleben, seelisch? Mit KI ist man wenigstens nicht so recht Schuld am hingeschlonzten Ergebnis. Vielleicht kann man in einer inhaltlich dissasoziierten Welt damit besser leben?
Oder eben, wie ich, lange vor KI: Gehen, dorthin, wo ich noch gute Arbeit machen darf.

Aber wenn es keine Kompetenz mehr gibt, wie soll Kompetenz dann noch erkannt werden? Wer sollte noch nach genuin kompetenten Leuten fragen oder auf die Idee kommen, sie einzustellen und gut zu bezahlen?
Das soll kein Argument dagegen sein, sich Kompetenzen anzueignen, sondern eher ein Infragestellen des "alle Leute werden dich einstellen und gut bezahlen" Märchentraums. The thing is, der Kapitalismus ist am Ende - ein Auslaufmodell. Als Selbstdenker wirst du Teil der Resistance sein.

Ach kommt, alte weiße Männer. Die ganze hohle KOMPETENZ-Laberei geht mir seit Jahren auf den Sack. Was hier gerade den Bach runter geht, ist eure Kompetenzsimulationskompetenz, und das ist auch gut so.
Das ist exakt, was ich meinen Kindern predige, die jetzt in dee Mittelstufe sind, wo die anderen Kids beteits Aufsätze von Bots schreiben lassen.
Ich habe sehr genau erklärt, dass sie in der aufkommenden 2 Klassen Gesellschaft von Menschen mit znd Menschen ohne Skills, nicht zur zweiten Gruppe gehören wollen.
Probleme bei der Prüfung? Mit unserer Mini Knopfkamera und unsichtbaren Mikro Kopfhörer ist es möglich in einer Prüfung zu spicken.Versteckte Knopfkamera und drahtlose Kopfhörer/ear piece, die nahezu unsichtbar sind!
Ich habe dieses Phänomen der Inkompetenz aber schon vor 20 Jahren gesehen, weil ständig die Messlatte für Abgänger, unter dem Vorwand, man bräuchte mehr Fachpersonal, herabgesetzt wurde.
Wie kann es sein, dass so jemand den Abschluss besteht?
Hätte ich in einer meiner Prüfungen ein Fachbuch herangezogen um Fragen der Prüfer zu beantworten, die kein Bestandteil der Prüfung gewesen wären, hätte ich sofort die Prüfung versagt.
Wie kann man so jemanden bestehen lassen?
Ein interessanter, gruseliger Einblick. Ich bin froh, die Basis noch selbst erarbeitet zu haben, dass ich vermittelt bekam, wie man sich selbst Neues erschließt und anwendet und 25+ Jahre Berufserfahrung einzusammeln, bevor die KI kam.
Nutze ich KI im Arbeitsalltag? Ja, aber nicht blind, sondern sehr zielgerichtet. Sie umreißt mir die Struktur großer, fremder Codebases; erklärt mir Probleme, um sie anschließend selbst zu lösen; dient als Rückversicherung; stundenlange, frustrierende Fehlersuche auf Minuten abzukürzen und stattdessen in der gewonnenen Zeit spannenderen Tätigkeiten nachzugehen. Und wenn man weiß, was man tut, können sich 15 € für Token einer einzigen halbstündigen Perplexity-Recherche lohnen, wenn man so eine umfassende Entscheidungsgrundlage für eine anschließende eigenhändige Evaluierung erhält, ohne dafür einen teuren Arbeitstag bei Google verbrannt zu haben.
Ich überlege, wie oft mir im Fediverse zuvor ein Post mit einer derart hohen Zahl an Boosts und Favs begegnet ist.
Die Politik u. Universitäten müssen dringend einschreiten, indem sie die gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen für Prüfungen radikal verändern.
Anstatt zu versuchen, das Internet der Studierenden zu sperren. Müssen Universitäten zwingend dorthin zurückkehren, wo KI nicht schummeln kann – in den Präsenzraum und in das mündliche Prüfungsgespräch.

Es gibt einen massiven Widerspruch zwischen dem, was didaktisch nötig wäre, und dem, was an Universitäten realisiert wird.
das ist doch nur die konsequente Weiterentwicklung.

Nichts neues. Das Problem sind nicht die Studis. Das Problem sind die Schulen, Hochschulen, Firmen, die das mitmachen oder unterstützen. Bei uns gibt es keine Projektarbeit oder WAB oder so ohne mündliche Prüfung. Diese ist ohne Notebook oder Handy.
@Gegenwind @mspro Ich sehe meine Aufgabe als Dozent darin, die Vorlesung so unterhaltsam zu machen, dass möglichst viele kommen. Ich habe aber auch Glück, ich unterrichte Fächer das ist das einfacher und ein von meinem Vater ererbtes Talent.
Und bei mir kommen ca. 90-95% immer.

Auf Papier, ohne Hilfsmittel.
Bei meiner Vordiplomsprüfung im Audimax hieß es:
"Sie brauchen sich nicht zu verteilen wie ein ideales Gas - es reicht wenn Sie 3 Reihen und 10 Plätze frei lassen..."
Oder halt mündliche Prüfungen (ggfs. auch nur als Nachfragen zu eingereichten Werken).
Übungen im PC-Pool ohne Internetzugang, ohne Handys.
Ist halt mehr Aufwand.
Bei schriftlichen Arbeiten mündlich nachfragen:
- Kernaussage/Abstract
- auf welchen Teil sind Sie besonders stolz? Warum?

ich habe mal ein LLM über ein pdf meiner Doktorarbeit von Ende des letzten Jahrtausends laufen lassen.
Rund fünf Sekunden (!!!) hat die Software gebraucht, um die rund 150 Seiten zu lesen und den Inhalt zu bewerten, an denen ich fünf Jahre gearbeitet habe.
Und die Bewertung durch die KI war fachlich und sachlich okay. Auch meine Fragen an sinnvolle nächste Schritte wurden okayish beantwortet.

ich habe ähnliche Befürchtungen...und ich denke gleichzeitig, dass es nie anders war. Durch die Maschinisierung der Produktion wurden Produkte massenhaft verfügbar und es verkümmerten oder verschwanden viele Handwerkskünste,. Produktion wird monopolisiert. Der Menschheit geht es materiell dennoch besser als je zuvor. Die Klimakrise ist die Folge.
Durch das Internet wurde globale Kommunikation massenhaft verfügbar, es verkümmerten und verschwanden Fähigkeiten zur lokalen sozialen Kommunikation. Wissen wurde monopolidiert.Durchschnittlich weiss die Menschheit dennoch mehr als je zuvor. Der kulturelle Verfall der Gesellschaften ist die Folge.
Durch die Maschinisierung des Denkens werdn intellektuelle Prozesse massenhaft verfügbar und es verkümmern und verschwinden gegenwärtig intellektuelle und kreative Fähigkeiten der Individuen. Denken wird monopolisiert. Wie lang wird die Menschheit wie stark profitieren? Was treibt die Entwicklung der Menschheit an, wenn nicht das Denken und geistige Schaffen? Welche Auswirkungen wird es haben?
Jede Welle des Fortschritts wird von einem fundamentalen Irrtum gleichzeitig getrieben und begrenzt.
Das Maß an „Inkompetenz mit Abschluss“ mag sich durch KI verstärkt haben. Das Phänomen ist jedoch nicht neu.
Früher haben Leute ihre Übungszettel halt abgeschrieben. Da wurden Bachelorarbeiten von Kommilitonen geschrieben und lediglich präsentiert.
Die echte Prüfung beginnt in der Probezeit beim Arbeitgeber. In der IT merkt man spätestens beim Codereview/Pair-Programming, ob jemand etwas kann.

Yea, we did a few things right in engineering.
@Coaster We spent a lot of money on education too, and before economy of scale was a thing (think late 1980-mid 1990s) every other university did design their own semiconductors too. Mono-crystalline silicon, as in growing those things by hand, pre 200mm wafers, was wide spread as well around technology institutes when that process not fully automated yet.
But other than with Siemens amd Infineon we mostly lost out on the mass market. It's like we Germans lose interest once the principles of getting it working are proven. 🤷♀️

Interessante Idee. Das haben wir als @freifunk ja auch für Mitglieder am Start. Im Endeffekt stellt sich aber raus, dass dann doch wenige Bedarf an den Diensten haben und es lieber selber hosten wenn es um private Daten geht.
Große Dinge wie DNS, Videokonferenzen etc gehen aber gut.
@awlnx Mir gehts ja um Max Mustermann, der sich eben nicht mit Selfhosting beschäftigen will, aber ne Alternative sucht.
Im @fablablg haben wir das ganze Zeug für Mitglieder auch laufen, aber ich hätte gerne ne Blaupause für "Guck mal, so könnt ihr das halbwegs sinnvoll selber betreiben".
Lokale Datacenter gibts genug, wo man mal eben 1-3 Server unterstellen kann.
@fablablg Ich befürchte fast dass das Thema da noch nicht so angekommen ist. Und dann eine Umstellung raus aus dem Google/Apple Universum echt schwer ist.
Wichtige Vorraussetzung wäre vermutlich SSO und da leider auch mit Apple/Google Login für noch einfacheren Übergang.

Ich will alles mögliche, von meinen statischen Websites und Blog über Mail (und IMAP mail Archiv) bis zu Datenaustausch und Social Media. Das Wichtigste für mich: ich hab das unter eigenen Domains/Subdomains. Wenn ich aus welchen Gründen auch immer Hoster/Mailanbieter usw wechseln muß, will ich meine Mailadressen und Webadressen behalten.
Wenn das ein Kollektiv anbietet ist das schön, ich hab Mail und Websites immer noch bei einem Bürgernetzverein.
Nextcloud ist leider vielfachs chlecht, aber ich seh, daß wir wenig besseres haben, Opencloud ist noch nicht ganz so weit (wird aber).

This comes really close to a question bubbling in my head recently: I, and every really good programmer I've ever known, got into this business because *we liked it*. I enjoy learning about these things. I find the act of writing code *fun*. When people asked me why I liked my job I enthused, "It's like being paid to solve logic puzzles!"
And they would shake their head in disbelief, because they didn't enjoy logic puzzles.
Vibe coding seems to me more like *work* than *fun*.
Nobody needs the skill to be able to verify the AI wrote an O(log_2_ N) search rather than O(N^2). It doesn't even matter because we can just bury the server at sea, overclock it, and pair it up with 10000 friends to handle the load.
So there you go. Waste of fucking time.
Every now and then, we're treated to a spate of press decrying legacy admissions at the Ivys, and I just shake my head.

I recently started watching Dutch late-night comedy TV on YouTube with subtitles, and I have the feeling that it helps to get a broader vocabulary. It still takes me about three times as long when I have to look up most words, but it's getting better!

The first gen is usually delighted to chat with you in Dutch. Some of the elderly speak very little English and really enjoy being able to talk to new people as well.

in reply to Kate Hildenbrand (DE) • • •this is so funny to me bc the most vivid memory of my first introduction to Deutsch/German (which i've never forgotten) was my friends who were taking Deutsch classes when we were 13 years old (in usa), teaching me to say "du bist ein Gemüse". which, you know, bananas aren't Gemüse, so you could be not a banana but also ein Gemüse lol
and i've never forgotten how to say vegetable, as a result!!

Between english and German I can mostly understand what Dutch people say. Some nuances might be lost but the gist is there.
