Welcome to #CheckIn for WEDNESDAY 2026-06-03

Muse here,

Today is free form discussion day. Go for your life!

Yesterday we took Desmond to the vet to have a molar extracted. He came home last night higher than a kite! They add uppers to the anesthetic these days. Today he just slept and slept. He seems to be doing fine!

@Christoph S is up next, I believe.

Here is Australia's last break dancing competitor. Raygun's performance was a bit free form as well!

Raygun

A cop sees a dancing suspect

Cop: Suspect is engaging in high-profile break-dancing in the main square

Radio: Copy that

Cop: I’ve had a couple breakdance lessons but I’m no way as good as him, sir!

Today’s topic is suggested by @Muse but there’s always an element of randomness. Grab your beverage preference (pixel or not), follow Wheaton’s Law and enjoy the space.

Still having conflict with my neighbors over loud music and partying on their driveway. :(

Still working on getting my natural gas meter/service removed ($25/month charge even if not using any). Hopefully by end of week. This too is causing a bit of neighbor contention...

@Kenny Chaffin If you are in conflict with my neighbors over loud music and partying on their driveway, maybe you should dance and party on your own driveway!!1lol

I'll see myself out.

In other news, after a long and exhausting day yesterday I meet this brass band under the elevated subway tracks, and they were packing a punch. Recognized only a few tunes, one of them was Billie Eilish's first single, well adapted to these instruments and performed without the signature yellow hoodie.

So glad we get along with our neighbours and party with them on driveways. But we're older so it gets packed in around 7😄

Went to a silent book club event at a new venue in town. It was very nice and 40 people showed up. There were drinks, charcuterie and everyone read their books for about an hour.

One of the most consistent impacts is on Atlantic hurricane season. Strong El Niño conditions increase upper-level winds across the tropical Atlantic—known as wind shear—which disrupts storm development and makes it difficult for hurricanes to organize and intensify.

As a result, super El Niño years are often associated with below-average Atlantic hurricane activity. Meanwhile, the eastern Pacific tends to be more enhanced, with warmer waters and favorable conditions supporting an increase in tropical storm and hurricane development.

Yep, I'm considering some such thing @Carsten Raddatz but don't want to make it worse. We'll see. I just know I'm not moving after putting a bunch of money into this house (and the current market!)....

These people moved in a few years back and have completely disrupted the neighborhood in many ways.

Noisy neighbors are the worst. My son and daughter-in-law actually moved because of neighbors who insisted on playing loud music and partying all the time. The HOA was no help at all.
I've been lucky lately with my neighbors. Most of the folks that live in my apartment complex are working people with families. It's mostly pretty quiet.

Noisy neighbors - Oy, vey. When I was in law school I figured that I had to spend at least three hours of preparation for each hour of class. And I was working full time.

So there I am trying to read supreme court cases and law reviews - often rather soporific stuff. I was living in an upstairs apartment in Santa Monica at the time. And the downstairs unit had two guys who seemed to do exactly two things - play Hotel California, over and over and over and over and over and over... again, and get totally stoned to the degree where they would pass out on the sidewalk. I was happy to move from that place.

(My prior apartment was under a unit occupied by a rather pleasant (and nice looking) woman whose name was Barbi Dahl and every night she would bring some guy home, there would be a lot of water running noises and the expected "jump 'er and thump 'er" sounds and accompanying ceiling vibration. Quite annoying. To nail a date to this - she and we gathered in our apartment to watch the news of the Symbionese Liberation Army (sans Patty Hearst) shootout...

@Lisa Stranger The vets mentioned the effects lasting longer, which is why even though Desmond had the surgery in the morning, I couldn't pick him up until their closing hour.

Today I think the new hole in Desmond's mouth must be hurting and itching. He is chewing on strange things.

In the past 24 hrs I found my missing car code reader (hanging in open sight in the cute ute, wtf) and my missing eGO charger (that I had thrown the cord over top of something so I wouldn't forget where I put it 😐). Total damages spent months ago for replacement, about $100.

Being an airhead is expensive 🫤

Weather wise, we went through a mild storm with gusts of wind in bf 7 that made weather service apps yell at me, through about 1 hour of strong rain, to no wind at all.

Which is good, I need to go for grocery shopping now. No umbrella needed. :)

As a courtesy to my fellow proximate living beings I've used headphones for decades. Not so good with thinking things and running my mouth though.

My buddy is a bad influence on me; I have been slowly acquiring a pair of full range speaker cabinets and a 2 channel amplifier to serve me until I die (or they get stolen) whenever I'm clear to turn it up.

Nothing was louder than the speaker system at Pepperland in San Rafael...

The speaker horns were so large that people danced inside them.

Pepperland was a great venue, but hard to reach for those of us in Berkeley.

So the amp arrived. It looked smaller in the picture. Should have checked the dimensions; everything else was sold out though.

Oh well. Hopefully it will give me many years of quality service in exchange for lugging it around.

Hm. A couple of portable solar cells inverters and batteries should probably be next. That way when the jobs finally run out for me I could be the loudest homeless elderly car dwelling American in all of the abandoned parking lot.

We could have improv comedy night, poetry night, auctions, musical performances, public service announcements - hell we'd be more civilized and cultured than the neoliberal extremist quislings in their `burban McMansions! ;P

Disaffected youth could sneak out and listen to the music, barter in exchange for small group tutoring by highly educated homeless professors, and hopefully soak in what it means to organize and contribute to society even after society has thrown one's life away to die miserable and out of sight.
