Welcome to #checkin for Sunday, August 3, 2025!

Good evening/afternoon/morning everyone and welcome to today's #checkin. Back home in Paderborn after having a nice ice cream for lunch with our friends. Very yummy!
We had a very nice weekend together and talked about this and that and of course the daily struggles with work and keeping order in the household and the definition of untidy...

For those who are living/have lived with a person together, who would you consider to be more "chaotic" or untidier? You or the other person?

I am a Chaos Muppet. Jill is an Order Muppet.

I think my patron goddess is Eris -- goddess of strife and discord. I create piles of stuff, piles of clothes, stacks of papers. When we travel I wander randomly (my wife plans every step far in advance.) Anyone want this golden apple that bears the words "For the fairest"?

Strangely in many things I am the one that is tidier (even though mentally I align more with non-conformity and chaos of a sort) when it comes to our living space. Probably because I am the one with less mobility and have to make things work for my limits rather than that of those around me. My ability to move around and function in the space safely and find what I need without too much bending or climbing. My wife on the other hand tends to be a stacker rather than a filer and often misplaces her things in her workspace.

I attempt often to go thru stuff and toss. Grimm refers to it as 'nesting' which is an infuriating term to be used as I'm NOT 'nesting' but 'throwing away!!'

He doesn't throw away. He has a bloody garbage bag with mail in it he claims he has to go thru. For the last 7months. It's not been gone thru.

I might just make it disappear.

I live alone and I'm rather tidy. But my ex-boyfriend is staying for the summer holidays and has invaded my house with hundreds of shampoo and alike bottles, gadgets, clothes and shoes everywhere... He never closes closet and cabinet doors. It used to drive me nuts, but this year I'm getting used to that chaos, he's a nice guy and good company 🙄

The computer minded people I hang out with oftentimes are, in their entirety, called The Chaos. The term is used as a term of honour. No particular sense of order or orderliness is implied. When mingling, chaos is less suit and tie and more cargo pants and t-shirts. And fishnet see through and all the rainbow too.

A hacker called sushee summarized that nicely in a blog post ca. 2005. if you're a hacker and use chaos as the reason to be unorganized you're holding it wrong.

Me, Id be the more chaotic person in this relationship, in an episodic way. . When recently transitioning from one job to the next, getting an IT equipment zoo in order and sent back was due.
.

Boxes, filling material and laptops everywhere. This mildly infuriating state was temporary, fortunately, but too good to not share
