Welcome to #CheckIn for THURSDAY 2025-07-17

Welcome to a new #checkin week! Weeks are a unit of time that can feel very new and full of possibility when they start, but can also feel very much like, Oh, here's just another one.

Which way do you lean?

Today’s topic is posted by @((( David "Kahomono" Frier ))) but there’s always an element of randomness. Grab your beverage preference (pixel or not), follow Wheaton’s Law and enjoy the space.

Program note: Please comment, and feel free to Like this post, but please resist the urge to Share or Repost it. Doing that creates an additional instance of a #Checkin post for a given day, and tends to fragment or dilute the conversations.

The CheckIn team is looking for an additional mod with the loss of 2 of us from the rotation - @su ann lim and @Rod Mesa. Please contact @Cass to find out more.

Lean? Physically? Well, the last few days I've had a recurrence of a pain in my left side that is causing me to have a distinct leftward bent stance. I hope it clears up soon.

Politically - I'm too much of a chicken to act in the way I lean, which is a strange combination of strongly "progressive"/liberal on many social things and rather conservative about financial things.

My grandmother would tell me to get out on the streets and engage in partisan acts against our federal dictatorship. I'd disappoint her.

Gravitationalally I kinda lean in whatever direction the space-time fabric pulls me.

I am trying to be leaner, but when I weigh myself in the morning, it tells me I need to try harder. :-)

I tend to lean to the left... in more ways than one. 😜

Seriously, I slump that way if I fall asleep in my chair. :-) Also, I have discovered I do lean a bit that way subconsciously when standing in one place and I have some weird muscles in that side of my back that bug me when I am doing stretching exercieses. No idea why I tend to tilt.

Vestibular disorder objects if I lean too much left, so right it is. Except here in the computer chair I do tend to put weight on my left armrest to keep my dominant right arm free for mousing and whatnot.

Weekend is a combination of absolution from all the phone calls I haven't made during the week, and self-loathing for another week of failure. Return of weekdays is a combination of hope that I can finally do the thing this week, and oh god I need to do the thing.

Lather rinse repeat.

in reply to CheckIn Posting

I tend to lean to the left. Also, my view of each week tends to be 'Oh, fuck what now??'
in reply to CheckIn Posting

I lean towards stunned disbelief, fear, and inability to think of anything effective I can actually do.
in reply to CheckIn Posting

Boy do I relate @deanc.

Weeks are possibilities for longer projects if I have them.

in reply to CheckIn Posting

For me the AnotherOneNess is about regular events, the need to do a thing yet again. So, I do not notice weeks but happenings.

Physically it depends on which leg is giving me pain....

As for politically I used to be a American version of a centrist fiscally, liberal socially. Things changed. Now I am true Liberal leaning towards radical thanks to the way American Politics have gone.

There are NO good International For Profit Corporations. They are all Corrupt lying thieving and exploiting bastards. Sometimes some of them are forced to do some good by the people, but most do not. Sometimes they give us a new technology or cure or improve the human condition, BUT they are all monkey's paws.

"The second [...] is defined by taking the fixed numerical value of the caesium frequency, ΔνCs, the unperturbed ground-state hyperfine transition frequency of the caesium 133 atom, to be 9192631770 when expressed in the unit Hz, which is equal to s−1."

I go with SI units.

The Overton Window in the US leans more right than in other Western countries. You can be "left" in the US and still be considered "right" in Australia.

I'm so far left that you need a telescope to see me. I understand that most people won't agree with me. So, I make friends because they are generally kind and share interests with me--such as a love of animation. I am Gandhi left NOT Che Guevara left. I am unlikely to blanket judge anyone. I will, nevertheless, keep working toward an equitable world of peace.

I'd almost be leaning towards the bottom of a glass, but am not that type.
