Welcome to #CheckIn for TUESDAY 2026-04-28

I'm volunteering as the pres. of the Rochester ISSA chapter this year and we're working on producing the Rochester Security Summit. It's turning out to be a fair bit more involved than I thought before I took it on.

What are you doing now that's more than you bargained for?

This post comes to you from @((( David "Kahomono" Frier ))) via the official #checkin posting account. Program note: Please comment, and feel free to Like this post, but please resist the urge to Share/Boost/Repost it. Doing that creates an additional instance of a #checkin post for a given day, and tends to fragment or dilute the conversations.

The CheckIn team is looking for an additional mod with the loss of 2 of us from the rotation - @su ann lim and @Rod Mesa. Please contact @Cass to find out more.

@libramoon - Unfortunately impeachment is essentially merely an indictment - it has no effect until and unless the Senate, by a fairly high supermajority, votes to "convict". Given our pusilanimous Congress it is rather unlikely that even if the House impeaches the Senate will convict. Sigh.

Been playing WoW in areas I never did, and with my higher level toon, never before thought I could go thru some of these zones and the toon would survive. Not only did she survive, she kicked some Ogre's to death easily! Can't imagine how some folks with lvl 90's do for some real struggles, seeing how well my lvl 70 Hunter is doing. As things get more dark and corrupt in the RW, I'm finding myself doing more with online gaming...

Days of snowfall at the end of April. It's ridiculous to feel put out but hard to remain motivated to do indoor stuff when day length says you should be outside. Only made worse by the few days of nice weather sans snow earlier in the month and the knowledge in previous years we were golfing and doing activities in 28°C weather.

My fish are sick. I've been away for too long and they need more care in Arizona than I can give them while in New Mexico.
So...
I just bought a 300 gallon stock tank. Tonight I'll be getting filters, etc. and filling it up. This weekend's plan is to drive to AZ, give the fish some meds, and bring the fish (and other things) to their new home.
The tank barely fit in my truck...

Way back in high school I had a friend who worked at the LA County museum for the dept of ichthyology - among other things (including free run of the hidden warehouse rooms) they had some huge fish tanks - both fresh and salt water - which were my friend's responsibility (the salt water tanks always had leakage problems.)

US pint. I learned about Imperial pints on my first work trip to England. I was jet lagged and taking drugs for hay fever - and we went to a pub for lunch. I'm not a beer drinker, so I ordered cider. Being the 1970s and me being an American I did not clearly realize that "cider" contained alcohol, a lot of alcohol.

So I drank a pint - an Imperial pint - and another - and a third. I was truly and sincerely sloshed.

Imperial pints when I was studying in the UK. The stereotypes about Germans that I got greeted with proved funny, because we don't do larger than 500ml usually, and the British routinely do!

Also, their draft beer is much less fizzy, so I happily complied with the stereotype because you get drunk less than with German stuff. Which was a good thing:tm:, because the Friday after lunch beers with university staff proved excellent social glue, but afterwards everybody went back to their office to finish that paper (they said), and I dutifully got back to the library desk to max out the inspiration-to-paper scheme.

@Carsten Raddatz - My wife calls me a cheap date - I get woozy after even a single glass of wine. So even had those three pints of cider been US pints I would still have been floating in outer space.

(Overall I'm not particularly fond of drinking alcohol - a few sips to be social is my usual limit.)
