Welcome to #CheckIn for MONDAY 2026-03-30

In the {Northern | Southern} hemisphere, the signs of {spring | fall} are starting for you. Maybe? What are you seeing? I've got that tree outside my window, the one that flowers so nicely two weeks a year, just starting to bud out.

Those two weeks are the only reason that tree lives on....

This post comes to you from @((( David "Kahomono" Frier ))) via the official #checkin posting account. Well, we just through 91F last week. Wow.

As far as spring goes ... Our tulips have bloomed and are fading, the tomatoes are sprouted and growing. The gophers are everywhere.

And I finally figured out where the bats are nesting in our house. (They are fairly large bats with grey wings.) I'm going to have to call a service that knows how to safely move them elsewhere. (I like having bats around and want to install a couple of bat houses. But I don't want them in our walls.)

The ground moss has returned to our yard... not seeing any budding plants yet, but our temps have been up and down from 20s one day to 70s another so a lot of plant life would be struggling to survive it.

We are also still in a drought (as high as we have seen in regards to the numbers) in our part of the state, despite all the snow and rain we had over the past few months. Yesterday we were under Fire Watch due to extremely low humidity... and yet other days last week we were at painful 90% humidity.

Its being a crazy year for us weather wise.

The lake we visited yesterday and like 99% of nature around it was still dormant. Spring is in the air only when the sun comes out. Here and there 1 out of 10 bushes and cherry tree will bloom, others are not quite feeling it. Still a good day outdoors, but at ~4°C you need a thick jacket.

We've had snowdrops and pachysandra for a couple weeks and a few tulips and daffodils are now about four inches tall. Some trees have buds swelling. Some of the grass is turning green. I need to cut the ornamental grass back today so it can start to grow again this week. The birds have been claiming territory and singing about makin' whoopee and raising families.

Lots more birds chirping around my windows of late, some leaves poking out On the trees along with early spring flowers but we are still on the climate change roller coaster. We're supposed to get into the low to mid 80s today but by Wednesday it'll be 40 again. Air conditioning on one day, heat on the next!

Eyes on, ears in, up and not crying, coffee in hand.
15°C here this morning, Expected high of 23° b 16:00. Guess it's finally a good day to get some yard work done after last week's temperatures.
Lot is a sun-fried, dried-out jumble of overgrowth. Might actually get some progress done now that my new meds seem to be working.

Spring has a head start here. Invasive trees are growing like, uh, weeds, and my chainsaws are all out of commission—and "ground cover" (also mostly weeds) I have nothing to mow with is also taking off.

Yes, all the things are broken here. It is wearing on me.

So many things I wanted to get done this winter are still unfinished, and it will soon be too hot to do them.

Pulled some dead palm fronds and cut 'em up for recycling. Trimmed a big Juniper branch (plenty more to go) which filled the same bin. Dug up a half dozen or so big Mallow. Jeepers. Will get back out there again tomorrow if the weather holds.
15:00 hrs. 20°C°F, Precipitation: 10% Humidity: 77% Wind: 16 km/h
I'm going to hop on my bike while there's still daylight.
Cheers!
