Welcome to #checkin for Friday, March 13, 2026!

Good evening/afternoon/morning, everyone, and welcome to today's #checkin. TGIF, It's Friday 13th again! Work was somehow frustrating as I encountered some error from a third party hardware device and the interaction that I cannot really narrow down...
I hate those days...Well, let's see next week if we can narrow it down... Sleeping often helps with this kind of problems and you find a solution overnight..Today is World Sleep Day!

How and where do you usually sleep? On the floor on some tatami mats or on some super soft and comfy mattress or even a waterbed? And do you sleep on the back/side/stomach? And window open or closed at night?

Greetings… Ahoj! Aloha! Bom dia! Bonjour! Bună! Ciao! G’day! Geia sas! Günaydın, صباح الخير , בוקר טוב 你好! Håfa Adai! Hi! Hei! Hello! Hallo! Hei! Hola! Howdy! Halō! Kamusta! Kia Orana! Kon’nichiwa! Mabuhay! Moi! Namaste! Ni Hao! Neih hou! Pagi! Saluton! Sawasdee! Shwmae! Γειάσας! Talofa!

Had 2 really bad nights, 2 good ones and the rest have been not as good as I would like but not so bad as to affect function. Like Joyce Leg Spasms, IBS issues or just excessive Arthritis flare ups are usually to blame... been that way since my surgery back in 2020. My anxiety levels are not helping, but with what's going on in the world I suspect lots of folks have that issue going on.

I sleep in whatever position I can manage after the cats have taken over the bed. Currently, I think they are working me through the alphabet of sleep shapes. Last night was an "S", which is kind of fetal with one arm out so that cat one can sleep near my chest and cat two can sleep close to my bum and legs.

Right now I'm sleeping on a block of memory foam. It's weird temperature-wise because I can be sweating on the mattress side and shivering cold on the comforter side. Pressure wise it's comfortable. Usually beds make my ribs hurt because my ribs stick out so much but the foam accommodates nicely. I mostly sleep on my sides, a habit formed by sleeping in limited space.

I sleep on my side. After my crippling injury and subsequent surgery when I was 17, I haven't been able to sleep on my back. The ache is too much. I CAN sleep on my back in something like recliner, because that lets my knee bend. Keeping it straight is what causes the issue.

Grimm is usually up all night, due to pain. You'd think that after years of sleeping alone most nights I'd get to sleep easily. Nope. Most of our lives it was his sleep apnea, now it's pain. I tend to sleep on my side, firm bed, but my feather pillow is a must. Also, my heated blanket is a must. I need to go to sleep now...another Friday the 13th?! Whoa.

I usually sleep on my back. Also since my New York trip I wear this eye mask with cartoon eyes on it, to my wife's amused dismay. But I do sleep much better in the dark.

Am tempted to obtain a Pepe the frog version in addition to this goodie from the New York hotel. Really comfy!

At times doggo takes my spot on the bed, croissant curl style, and I fold around him 🥐. A two humans, one dog constellation is possible only when the dog picks the middle, in baguette position 🥖 long side parallel. Fortunately he leaves the bed at some point because the cool wooden floor is more comfy apparently, or any spot his Bedsure pillow is.

I sleep in the recovery position because I refuse to use a CPAP. I have a firm mattress with thick, a cloud-soft top. As long as I can get in a good bike ride, (or some other exercise,) I sleep well. Better than taking melatonin.
I usually wake to cats demanding I feed them. They can be so damned bossy.

I start on my right side... typically roll on my back at some point, then back on my side eventually. Can't sleep on the left side due to the vestibular thing (wake up with the room rotating). Could sleep on my stomach if I wasn't afraid of suffocating. Pets in bed are not a thing—I already don't sleep well, I don't need any "halp" in that department. Mattress is not-very-thick memory foam, and hasn't been rotated in a couple of years (read: since I've had no help to do it). Wish it was latex, but 💰💰

I refuse to use a CPAP

Mr. Stranger's cardiologist trotted that out as a weapon when he got irrationally angry about Mr. S not using a diuretic when he was having a hard time getting to the bathroom 🤬 once you get on the insurance merry-go-round with CPAPs, you're trapped.
