Welcome to #CheckIn for MONDAY, 2025-07-28

Growing up there were so many cartoon animals! Newspaper comics strips, cartoons, animated features: Krazy Kat, Pogo, Snoopy, Marmaduke, Garfield, Opus, and more! Did you have a favourite when you were a kid? Do you have a favourite now? Who makes you smile just thinking about them? Bugs Bunny was my first love, but I must say that Totoro is my adult crush.

Totoro

Today’s topic is suggested by @Muse but there’s always an element of randomness. Grab your beverage preference (pixel or not), follow Wheaton’s Law and enjoy the space.

Bugs, the pink panther (that may have just been the Mancini), so many. Thinking Pooh image
in reply to CheckIn Posting

Bugs and the whole crew there. Rocky & Bullwinkle and THAT whole crew. Popeye &c.

As a kid, it was looney tunes, road runner, sylvester/tweety bird, that set.
Then Ren and Stimpy as a young adult.

Oh, and it's sad to see Tom Lehrer passed, but by golly it was great having him.

in reply to CheckIn Posting

Rocky & Bullwinkle and its related cartoons (Dudley Do-Right, Fractured Fairy Tales, Mr. Peabody, etc/)

Seen in a youtube comment : "RIP Tom Lehrer. I'm glad that you outlived Kissinger"

So say we all!

Among Donald Duck and his extended family, Snoopy and Der Superpiep, Garfield was a favourite. The German long title included the phrase "fat, lazy and philosophical". Also, Lasagna! (I noticed I could look up that word I had not heard before, 4th grader me found something related in a dictionary, but adults were sorta out of their wits to explain what it really meant. More reasons to peruse the library. I owe Garfield.)

Today, very Japanese/Taiwanese characters get the spot. Bugcat capoo, Jian Tu (the rabbit), Cony and Brown are a favourite, kawaii to the get no even when they are crying. They live here as two hand-sized plushies, and measure the space that being friends, lovers and the full range of togetherness can fill.

Johnny Quest, Josie and the Pussy Cats were a can't miss as I got older. Now I catch animated series like Camp Jurassic Park and one off animated movies.

Scooby Doo. As well as the Hanna Barbera cartoons, along with Bugs Bunny and gang.

I played Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown when I was in high school. I watched many of the 70's Saturday morning and Sunday cartoons. Pink Panther, Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck come to mind immediately, could probably think of more. Indeed, now that I've triggered the "think of those cartoon animals" process, more will probably come to mind throughout the next day or two.

I watched (and still watch occasionally) Bugs Bunny and the whole Looney Tunes gang. I love Scooby Doo (my cats are named Daphne and Velma). My all-time favorites, though, were Snoopy and Woodstock. I also dedicated my master's thesis to Bill the Cat. ACK THPPFFT!

When I was in high school, my mom got me this thing:

Have I got something for you Wiley E Coyote fans... just one year to go :P

in reply to CheckIn Posting

absolutely, Rocky and Bullwinkle
not so much today, but more recently than back then: Duckula
in reply to CheckIn Posting

I've always liked Bugs... hard to say if he was my "favorite" as a kid, but has grown to be as I aged, for reasons I have only recently started to grasp.

It's been fun to unpack the grownup themes from Looney Tunes over the years, too.

The Pink Panther was a particular favorite, probably followed by Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Oh, and Tom and Jerry. (But not the godawful late-period Iwao Takamoto ones. Takamoto did not understand Tom and Jerry, and it showed.)
in reply to CheckIn Posting

I have all of the Pink Panther cartoons on CD. 🙂
in reply to CheckIn Posting

I always read Tom the Dancing Bug's "Super Fun Pak Comics"

I have no way to describe those except, "a bit surreal"

As a kid my favorite was Chip and Dale's rescue Rangers. I thought Gadget was pretty.

Now I like anything by Miyazaki, and most anime in general. Totoro is a particular favorite.
