Kitsune Tails is OUT NOW!! Run, jump, and dash across a land inspired by Japanese mythology and untangle the love triangle between three young women on a journey of self discovery. Explore the complicated relationships between kitsune and humans through classic platforming action.

get it now on steam store.steampowered.com/app/132… or itch eniko.itch.io/kitsunetails

we're a small underfunded team with a majority queer developers, and while we're punching way above our weight class we need the support of our community if this game is going to be a success. please boost this post, and if you can afford it buy it on steam and leave a positive review on the first day (the text doesn't matter, only the thumbs up, so "i like gay fops" is totally valid as a review)

i also want to prove fedi is powerful enough to make an indie game succeed, so even if you're not personally that into the game, please boost this post? 🙏

in reply to Eniko Fox

Do you know if it works on the Steam Deck? I only have access to that right now.
in reply to Eniko Fox

Super excited about the modding support you were posting about, my kid is on a big "I wanna make games" kick and loves platformers, we're getting this installed for him tonight
in reply to Eniko Fox

i may have jumped the gun 😹 (this resolved right away, not a support request ha)

@hirnsushi maybe we should've given an achievement for completing the postcard customization 🤔
in reply to Eniko Fox

i have been informed that the linux version in a "default whisky bottle just works" on macOS

i'm gonna be real and admit i have no idea what that means, but hopefully this will be useful information for those of you wanting to play kitsune tails on mac

in reply to Eniko Fox

if you're wondering when/how to buy the game so help us as much as possible, i've answered that here: peoplemaking.games/@eniko/1128…

so lots of people have asked me: do you want me to buy kitsune tails on steam or on itch?

the answer is that buying it day 1 on steam, playing for a few hours, and leaving a favorable steam review (text doesn't matter, even if it's just "good game" or "gays fopsgirl 👍") is what's best for us

we get a couple extra bucks when buying on itch but our only shot at organic visibility is by getting our steam metrics high enough, and that's our only shot at reaching an audience large enough that everyone can get paid properly

in reply to Eniko Fox

we're on new & trending on steam's front page! thank all of you for getting us there!
in reply to Eniko Fox

I'm neither particularly a fan of this type of game nor do I know when I'll have time to play it but the game still sounds amazing and I very much want to support it so I bought it anyway
in reply to Eniko Fox

congratulations, _now_ hopefully you can rest! I know this thing has been a mammoth undertaking, I hope you see the success you deserve.
I'm broke as heck currently but I'll be sure to pick it up when I finally have money again ♥️
in reply to Eniko Fox

Until we can get Steam Workshop support going we've created a Discord forum on the Kitsune Games Discord where you can post levels and minigame mods for Kitsune Tails. You can join the discord at discord.gg/kitsunegames

in 24 hours we've blown past 250 reviews for kitsune tails, what an amazing result! please do keep 'em coming though, we're aiming for overwhelmingly positive at 500, and then, the world!! >:3

When you get a game to 500 overwhelmingly positive reviews, you get to choose three superpowers of a list.

It's the Steam law.

in reply to Eniko Fox

so many congratulations!!! im glad to see it such a success ^~^
in reply to Eniko Fox

I played it for a little under two hours last night and had a great time. Looking forward to playing more this weekend. :)

This post also reminded me to review the game myself, so I went ahead and did that.

in reply to Eniko Fox

i don't have a windows machine right now so I'm not sure if it'll let me review, but i plan to pick it up
in reply to Mister Dave

@misterdave do you have a Linux machine or steam deck? Cause it has a Linux native build
in reply to Eniko Fox

y'know I've been meaning to put a Linux partition on the imac, maybe this is the push
in reply to Mister Dave

@misterdave yeah there's some effort going on to make it work on Mac with whiskey but I think it's a ways off still
in reply to Eniko Fox

In french we say "Bravo les lesbiennes" and I think that's beautiful :yotsuba_pleased:
in reply to Eniko Fox

Apparently Whisky is a wordplay on WINE (the Linux not-a-WIndows-emulator), as Whisky.app seems to do the same thing, but on Mac. And if it runs the Linux version also, I guess it's bit more versatile compared to WINE. I take it "bottle" is some sort of container or wrapper.
in reply to Eniko Fox

Congrats, this is huge! I'll definitely fire it up after work tonight.

Not to create more work for you, but on itch I've seen people have free copies for people who can't afford the game. Is that a thing you plan to do, and if so, can I donate some copies?

in reply to Jenniferplusplus

@jenniferplusplus yeah i think that would be a nice thing to do but not today >_> can you send me another message on the weekend? i'm getting so many notifications now this will surely get lost in the shuffle
in reply to Eniko Fox

I bought it, and look forward to trying it, probably this weekend. Congrats on the launch!

@mkj it's using monokickstart so everything it needs to run should already be bundled with the game
@mkj
in reply to Eniko Fox

Congratulations! I'd buy it immediately but I'm wondering, what would be better for overall sales: that I buy the game right now to increase sales number (and perhaps Steam visibility?) or buy it full price after the discount? (my birthday is the day after the end of the discount, it'd be a nice gift for myself ^^)
in reply to Artéan

@artean it is absolutely best to buy it right now and play it for a few hours (or leave it idle) and do a day 1 favorable review
in reply to Eniko Fox

Will do! :blobfoxdealwithitfingerguns: Good thing it runs on Linux, it's the only computer I have with me right now. ^^

in reply to Eniko Fox

🎉🥳 Congratulations on the release! Looking forward to taking it for a spin very soon
in reply to Eniko Fox

This looks enormously fun. If you ever partner with Ratalaika to get this on PS4/PS5, I'll hit that buy button so fast.
in reply to Eniko Fox

oh thanks. Usually there's more there but I'd been tidying up the desk a bit to make room to doodle some stuff on a lil sketchpad. Anyways I've been playing the game and it's great fun. It feels so nice to play. :D
in reply to Carnivius

@Carnivius i had the same raph figure when i was a kid. i was huge into TMNT :D
in reply to Eniko Fox

Very cool. Yeah this is a modern update of that same figure (with improved articulation and such). :) I bought it primarily because it's directly based on that vintage Raph I had as a kid and was one of my fave toys. :D
in reply to Eniko Fox

The video looks amazing. This is the kind of game I could see myself actually playing.
in reply to Eniko Fox

you added slope sliding!!! this was my one gripe about the controls in the demo
in reply to Eniko Fox

just bought a copy, looking forward to playing it this evening!
in reply to Eniko Fox

@autumn what, i mean, it's simple....all you have to do to make a mac port is buy an expensive mac, an xcode license, a developer license, port your project files to run in xcode, remake all the graphics code to use metal, maintain two versions of the game as you need a signed and unsigned version to comply with apples policy, and pay apple for the privilege of witnessing this procedure. Yes, a totally easy and sane way to get devs to port to your platform.../s
in reply to Eniko Fox

I'm sliding down so many slopes! Gay foxgirl slippery slopes!
in reply to Eniko Fox

Question from curiosity, what game engine or technology was used to make the game?

@eniko

in reply to j2i.net

the engine is all custom, but it runs on top of SDL2 and a bit of FNA, programmed in C#

Yay! A fellow C# developer!

Downloading!

非常に興奮しています!!!

I can't wait until this weekend when I can play!

Congratulations on the release! The game looks like a perfect match for my interests! Bought it instantly.
in reply to Eniko Fox

wish there was ultrawide support but I'm having a good time so far nonetheless c:
in reply to Lua🏳️‍⚧️

@luatic yeah there's a lot of reasons the game has a fixed aspect ratio. If you played it in ultrawide it'd feel slow. I know that cause we used to match SMB3 speeds which is 4:3 but had to increase the speed cause people felt it was slow in 16:9

@shine yep we're hopefully gonna hit those first quarter 2025
in reply to Eniko Fox

Bought the game! While I've only had the time to play the first level, I can already see big presentation improvements compared to the demo
in reply to Eniko Fox

Congratulations on the release! It looks amazing and I'll pick it up once it launches on the switch.
in reply to Eniko Fox

Looking good! Works perfectly on my Debian Sid desktop with a PS3 controller too. :Gritty:

I was thinking I should wait until the Switch port came out, but then I decided I wanted to be part of the day 1 hype, and I think I made the right move. About an hour in and loving it so far! 😊

in reply to Eniko Fox

I have a question. Does this game have DRM or run without steam? It won't change the fact that I own it. I just want to know if I might have a chance at throwing it in Winlator on my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro.
in reply to Syphist

Itch.io link is there, do games from Itch have DRM?
in reply to Imikoy

I don't know. I bought the game from steam because I actually have an account there (unlike itch) and before I thought of this idea. If it won't work that's okay. I just think it might be fun to try to get working since the minimum specs are probably low enough.
in reply to Syphist

@syphist @imikoy it'll run without steam. in fact if you delete "steamver" file, which is just an empty file, it won't even try to connect to steam
in reply to Eniko Fox

I bought 2 copies. One for myself and one for my partner @thatgalsilver :3

I probably won't play it right away but Syl is gonna play it on their stream.

in reply to Eniko Fox

Bought it and played the first 3 levels, very fun game.😃
in reply to Eniko Fox

woww the game looks really cute and fun! Definitely buying it when I get the chance
in reply to Eniko Fox

Also I have no idea if this is useful data but Steam says my 8bitDo controller is "unsupported" but it works really well.
in reply to 183231bcb

@183231bcb yeah steam has its own input nonsense which we absolutely ignore the shit out of :D
in reply to Eniko Fox

Okay... It's... Well, maybe it's just because I'm not twelve anymore, but this is harder than jet-set-willy.

Still fun, though.

in reply to Halla Rempt

@halla please dont hesitate to switch playstyles to leisurely stroll for an instant revive if you feel youre getting frustrated
in reply to Eniko Fox

congratulations on the launch! 🎉

Among all the cool screenshots I somehow missed that there's actual /voices/ in the game which was a pretty nice surprise as I wasn't expecting characters to speak!

in reply to Eniko Fox

Whatever you tweaked with the jumping between the demo and release is great. It feels much better to me, personally.
in reply to Eniko Fox

Hi Eniko, my partner bought me a copy of the game and I've been watching a friend play it and I'm really excited to hop in! The only thing that I was a little sad to notice missing is resolution options for when you go into windowed mode. Is there a possibility of this being able to be patched in at a later point, to make ensuring your windowed resolution is the right aspect easier?
in reply to Syl (Sylvia Bun)

@thatgalsilver maybe, but that kind of thing can actually be a real pain in the ass to do properly in a cross platform way :/
in reply to Eniko Fox

That is totally fair and a reasonable response! Regardless, I'm super stoked to hop in and play and I wish you and your team the most luck in making this a successful launch :3 it looks so pretty from what I've seen so far!
in reply to Eniko Fox

i bought game. i appreciate PS4 controller support on Linux. A lot of times with non-steam games you gotta add 'em through steam and use steaminput for that.

I am looking forward to playing the game. SMW and SMB3 were a big part of my childhood. I had 'em on GBA and played them like everywhere I went.

in reply to Eniko Fox

can confirm plays solid on the steam deck. fun game so far. bravo!
in reply to Eniko Fox

I follow someone on YouTube who already made a minigame! youtu.be/KbSIncVn5Ws?si=TV4Yod…

Eniko Fox reshared this.

in reply to Eniko Fox

Congrats on the launch! I just started playing it on my Steam Deck. Definitely need to get my platforming skills back up to snuff (been really, really bad in Mario Maker and Mario World).
in reply to Eniko Fox

um
How do you exit the ghostzilla minigame? (:

(Yes I went to the examples first because I want to save the rest for later and I was just testing (: )

in reply to Eniko Fox

Ok (:

I tried a bunch of other things and it just... didn't (:

That could maybe use a hint, though it's PROBABLY in the documentation somewhere.

in reply to Sir Garbagetruck

@Truck its actually shown at the bottom of the mods menu?

but i've edited ghostzilla to let people back out with escape now

in reply to Eniko Fox

I may have been excited to play the game and tired from hosting Assembly (and blowing my nose into the microphone while we thought we were not on air)
in reply to Sir Garbagetruck

@Truck oh nooooo XD

its okay, i should have added a proper way to exit the game into it, i was just too rushed with release

the reason it requires a special key combo is cause you can use start/select inside minigames too so i couldn't dedicate any button to exiting

in reply to Eniko Fox

This was literally on my periphery, I remember making a mental note to check this out when I got a chance, but as always I got distracted by things!

Will definitely make an effort to check this out as soon as possible, really looking forward to this!

@gdeyke well you should play Kitsune Zero, not SBW, if that's your aim. But all that'll do for you is give you a little background lore and a slightly more detailed overview of Yuzu's parents' romance which they still talk about in Kitsune Tails anyway

So you won't be missing anything by jumping straight into Kitsune Tails

@gytisrepecka yeah its got a linux native build that works perfectly, we did a decent amount of testing

Alas steam doesn't let you request steam deck reviews easily

in reply to Eniko Fox

Argh, this is so much fun that my brain has put it in the "can't enjoy this until all chores are done" category, like painting, reading grammars or comics...
in reply to Eniko Fox

Entirely coincidentally, my daughter was asking if I had any platform games in my Steam library yesterday, so I bought her a copy of Kitsune Tails to play.
in reply to Eniko Fox

my favorite streamer told me it's not the kind of game she'd steam but she likes them anyway. So I got her a copy and one for myself :)

Had no idea I'd stumble upon one of the devs of this game on the Fediverse!
Around launch, a buddy brought this game to my attention. Pretty sure I said, "Sounds gay, I'm in", bought it, and dumped hours into it.

Controls are tight, art is cute and colourful, but I need to listen to more of the music. Most of my playtime so far has been in a quiet env. Gameplay heavily reminds me of SMB 3 in all the best ways.

I need to go back and finish the game. Thanks for the reminder! ❤

in reply to Eniko Fox

@Njord @rally @Lizstar @kitsunegames Get followed, gamers! 😆

Edit: But also, thank you all for your work on this game! I really enjoy it. ❤️

this is an amazing project! How difficult / possible is a pacifist run?
in reply to Jons Mostovojs

@jonn you can't beat the (mini)bosses without attacking them. You could probably beat most other levels except the kaizo bonus levels?
in reply to Eniko Fox

@jonn I suppose you could use super fox power ups on bosses and have them touch you for damage so that you're technically not responsible? >_>
in reply to Eniko Fox

that's smart! I like it. It's kind of like the skeleton fight in #undertale where there's a strat of taking enough damage for the skeleton to get bored. I solved it myself using 1 fight and a bunch of consumables, proud of it. It felt so close. Ahhh. Undertale is so good :3
