so lots of people have asked me: do you want me to buy kitsune tails on steam or on itch?

the answer is that buying it day 1 on steam, playing for a few hours, and leaving a favorable steam review (text doesn't matter, even if it's just "good game" or "gays fopsgirl 👍") is what's best for us

we get a couple extra bucks when buying on itch but our only shot at organic visibility is by getting our steam metrics high enough, and that's our only shot at reaching an audience large enough that everyone can get paid properly

I prefer buying on Steam to keep everything centralised - even if I have issues with Steam - so this is good to hear. I'm placing my order the moment sales go live, and after a bit of play I'll leave a review too (which I never do normally).

I could also perhaps mention the game on my website @osnews, but I don't cover games normally so it might be a bit weird. Still, several hundreds of thousands of readers might make it worth it, especially with the Lua tools you added.

is there a way to check the price (for various countries, in my case Italy) right now? Or do I need to wait for Steam to "enable" it? Thanks

@0xdariaj @andreagrandi in territories that use the euro it'll all be that price. in other currencies regional pricing will be applied

@hirnsushi definitely don't go so long you forget to review the game though! >_>

itch allows you to make steam keys available to people who buy it there if thats an option for you
in reply to Rainbow Cemetery

yeah but if you use a steam key (or get a gift via steam) then your steam review doesn't count

in reply to Rainbow Cemetery

@rainbowcemetery yeah its really shitty how they do that. this means if you run a kickstarter none of your biggest fans will count for steam's metrics, cause they all get external keys
in reply to Oblomov

@oblomov @rainbowcemetery its part of why we've decided to stop offering steam keys on itch going forward. they're a nice value add for customers but also, they lock everyone into steam's ecosystem

What about someone who can't play Windows games through Steam? Will buying the Steam version and reviewing without logging any hours interfere with anything...?
in reply to Dreamship

@Dreamship I don't know if not being able to boot it will change the review. I assume you have to have some time logged

Are you on Mac? Cause the game works on Linux and Steam Deck too

in reply to Eniko | Kitsune Tails out now!

I am although I do have a Windows 7 laptop for games (I never ever use browsers on it). I don't know if I can set up Linux and learn how to use it in a day.... But, I've been planning all along to buy it on itch whether or not I also get it on Steam ;)
in reply to Dreamship

@Dreamship ah, there are people who are looking into creating a community patch to get it running on mac. maybe wait to review it until after that's out?
in reply to Eniko | Kitsune Tails out now!

hey, I can help test this. The crash message on Crossover on macOS is extremely strange but I guess you already knew that.

@voltagex you'll have to ask the other participants in this thread, the mac version isn't officially supported

What about leaving a review without having played it? Because I’m on holiday now, so I can buy it but not play it.
