The timeout command allows you to set a limit on the length of time a program will run for. But why would you want to do that? [...] timeout is part of the GNU Core Utils so Linux a

DQIB, the Debian Quick Image Baker

"Mostly for the fun of hacking on some exotic architectures, I tried to brew together a little script, the Debian Quick Image Baker (DQIB). It is basically a wrapper that calls qemu-debootstrap with the right options (where "right" means "those that I have experimentally found to work"), with some thin icing layer on top. qemu-debootstrap is basically another wrapper on top of debootstrap, which of course does the heavy lifting, and qemu-user-static, that allows debootstrap to run executables for foreign architectures."

Forbes Wonders Why I Use AdBlock

Hackers injected the Forbes' subscription website with a Magecart script which collects payment card data customers introduce on the checkout page and exfiltrates it to a server controlled by the attackers.

As revealed by Bad Packets Report's co-founder Troy Mursch, the script collects card numbers, expiration dates, and credit card CVV/CVC verification codes, as well as customers' names, addresses, phone numbers and emails.

Magecart groups have been active since at least 2015 and represent an ever-evolving threat capable of launching attacks against high profile international companies like Ticketmaster, British Airways, OXO, and Newegg, as well as to target small retailers like Amerisleep and MyPillow.

Article: Network Redirections in Bash.

by Anmol Sarma - software developer from Bengaluru ( #India ).

Preview/extract:

[...] it sends a UDP datagram containing a random number to port 1234 every 250 ms.

while true; do echo $RANDOM > /dev/udp/127.0.0.1/1234; sleep 0.25; done

I didn’t recall ever seeing a /dev/udp and so was a bit surprised that it worked.
Seemingly, a normal UDP socket was being created and written to using the regular sycall interface. That refuted my initial suspicion that some kind of a special file backed by the kernel was involved.
But who was actually creating the socket?
A peek at Bash’s code answered that question [...]

Took me only two days of fighting with #privileges, #permissions and automation, but in the end my #scanner is now able to post directly into my #wiki's media management system without opening it up to any runaway #script on the box.

Phew.

I wonder if I'd be able to redo this in a couple of years, so I will add all components to my new script git repository.

Found this on Facebook and decided to replicate it here. After downloading each of the images, I put them into a #DigitalOcean #Spaces (#S3) container, enabled the #CDN, and wrote a simple #bash #script to sort them by date (since I downloaded them in order) and generate the #markdown for this post. Hopefully it was worth it.

Hi guys, this is the first time I asked for some technical issue here so let's what is going to happen.

Basically it should be something pretty easy but this is the typical situation where all my limits come out...

I am trying to create my own Retroarch box based on Debian minimal, it will be very essential, without running DE or WM. Said that I was able to log in console automatically, at the point I will launch my front-end based in whiptail that I will control with the gamepad but before I need to understand how to setup the menu.

Basically what I have is this:
#!/bin/sh
whiptail --backtitle "ROCK'N'PLAY" --fb --nocancel --ok-button "run" \
--title "Rock'n'Play Menu" \
--menu "Choose an option and Rock!" 18 60 6 \
1 RetroArch \
2 Restart \
3 Shutdown \
3>&1 1>&2 2>&3

Now I have to launch retroarch with 'startx retroarch', doing restart with '/bin/systemctl restart' or doing shutdown with '/sbin/poweroff' but I can't understand how to apply these commands. I found several examp... show more
