How to use Google Maps to help someone find you | The Verge

Google Maps is great for helping you find your way — or even helping you find your car — but the app can also help other people find you.

Maps has an easily overlooked feature for sharing your real-time whereabouts with someone so they can see exactly where you are, even if you’re moving, and then navigate to your location. You can use the same feature to let a trusted person keep tabs on your travel progress to a particular place and know precisely when you’re set to arrive.

The best part? It’s all incredibly simple to do. The trick is knowing where to look.
I bet someone's going to find this useful.

hen Jessa Jones’s twin daughters flushed her iPhone 4S down the toilet, she decided that she was going to fix it herself. She took the toilet apart in her backyard, retrieved the device, and then searched online for how to make it turn on again.

She not only went on to fix it, she started a repair business.

HTC is launching a cheaper version of its blockchain phone | TechRadar

HTC isn't giving up on its blockchain phone strategy: following on from the Exodus 1 that launched late in 2018, the company has revealed a cheaper version of the phone is going on sale later this year.
Um... why?
We don't have many details about the handset yet, but HTC has said the phone will run as a full node – in other words, it will validate and relay Bitcoin transactions, and help keep the blockchain network running.
Yes, but...
To do that it's going to have to hold the entire Bitcoin blockchain (200GB and growing)
And how long is it going to be before that doubles?

WhatsApp is ending support for Windows Phone, and old Android / iOS devices | TechRadar

In a blog post, WhatsApp has announced it is to stop supporting handsets running the Windows Phone operating system as of December 31, 2019, and all phones on iOS 7 or older, and Android 2.3.7 and older, as of February 1 2020.
These are really old versions of Android they're talking about, but I bet someone is still using them.

general rant about purism phone and android

I think what people don't mention about Purism, that they are a business. And sadly a bad one. They are going down the route of Apple. They want freedom for everyone, but it has a price.

Purism stuff is extremely pricey for me. As much as I want a handheld device that's based on free software. I can't afford it. And even if I could, it's really-really don't give back to me that much, that I can justify the price.

How about different tier devices? I just want to have a phone that I can call people with, listen to podcast, read the news in a non-flashy way (no flipboard kind of bullshit). I am sure for a device like this I don't have to pay 600+ euros (and no guarantee that it will work for let's say 4-5 years later).

**That's why I have a simple feature phone, which has proprietary-only software.**

Android is also not a good solution, most stuff are proprietary too, and you have to have significant knowledge to de-googlify your phone or tablet. (f-droid is nice though, keep working people, you are awesome!)

Android itself is built for pricey phones.... show more

Mental #Health Issues Increased Significantly in #Young Adults Over Last Decade

source: https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2019/03/mental-health-adults
The increase in digital media use may have had a bigger impact on teens and young adults because older adults' social lives are more stable and might have changed less than teens' social lives have in the last ten years, said Twenge. Older adults might also be less likely to use digital #media in a way that interferes with sleep — for example, they might be better at not staying up late on their phones or using them in the middle of the night.

First new feature integrated during the #diasporaHackathon: I added a manifest file so diaspora* can now easily be pinned as a Progressive Web Application on your phone. At the moment, it will only allow you to have a full screen experience and a quick access from the home screen, but I hope to continue improving the mobile experience on diaspora*.

This feature is only available on the develop branch at the moment but will be part of the next minor version coming in a few weeks.
To enable it at that time, you simply need to tap on the house icon with a + in it if you're using Firefox for Android, or to go to the menu and tap "Add to home screen" if you're using Chrome or Safari.
