Any Markdown / Pandoc mavens know how to tweak the HTML DOM generated for HTML pages?

I'm looking at one for an article which doesn't seem to generate

<

article> or elements, though if it did either, would make some layout / CSS issues a lot easier to deal with.

Problem now is that when I set additional margins within <blockquote> segements, they don't really or consistently differ from the adjacent <br> elements. I have a sad.

The CSS I'm using, in part (and yes, I can share the full stylesheet, though this seems to be the operative code):
body {
  margin: 1rem auto;
  max-width: 90rem;
  padding: 0 4rem 0.5rem;
  width: auto;
  font-size: 1rem;
  line-height: 1.4;
}

blockquote {
    margin-left: 8em;
    margin-right: 6em;
}

article, p, ol, ul, li, div {
    width: auto;
    max-width: 45rem;
    margin: 0 auto;
    line-height: 1.4;
}

p {
    margin: 1em auto;
}

What happens is that the blockquote margins are acting against the full p... show more

Newbie webdev html question:

How can i keep the url (percent) encoding of unicode characters when a link is clicked?

For example: I have the word "Blåsippa" with the Swedish å character, which is encoded with url (percent) encoding, it looks like this when i look at the soruce for my website: Bl%C3%A5sippa. In context it looks like this:
<a href="http://linnaeus.nrm.se/cgi-bin/virtflor/search.pl?Match=1&Realm=include-by-name&Realm%3Avirtflor=1&Terms=Bl%C3%A5sippa">Sök i den Virtuella Floran</a>

So far so good!

But when i click the link i get this instead as part of the url: Blåsippa
linnaeus.nrm.se/cgi-bin/virtflor/search.pl?Match=1&Realm=include-by-name&Realm%3Avirtflor=1&Terms=Blåsippa

(Strangely, when i copy the whole url i get the url en... show more

Sometimes I wonder why some simple websites use Wordpress. You only have static pages! Why on earth you need millions of lines of Wordpress code for that?

You can code that in couple hundred lines in just HTML/CSS. Easier to maintain and more secure.

HTML, CSS and our vanishing industry entry points

Random statistics: my new #hugo website (deployed #html + #css files) is ca. 1.2MB in size (without images).

The old #drupal site was ca. 130MB in size (without images) plus 8.5MB in SQL dump.

Same user-visible content in both sites.

Looking for a good #wysiwyg editor for #html or #ReStructuredText. I want to be able to edit the text of a webpage without disturbing the code.

Basically something that works like Adobe Dreamweaver without actually being Adobe Dreamweaver. There are so many things that do sort of what I want that I don't know how to choose.

If you're starting to appreciate Markdown: Pandoc

The formatting conventions on Diaspora and other Federation/Fediverse platforms is Markdown, what's called a lightweight markup language. There are several others, including AsciiDoc, which heavily inspired the markup used at Google+.

There is a software utility, Pandoc, available as a command-line tool on Linux, Mac, and (through various command-line tools such as Cygwin) on Windows. It is a document-transformation Swiss army life, capable of converting from and to a vast number of formats, including:
  • From: (several dialects of) Markdown, reStructuredText, textile, HTML, DocBook, LaTeX, MediaWiki markup, TWiki markup, TikiWiki markup, Creole 1.0, Vimwiki markup, OPML, Emacs Org-Mode, Emacs Muse, txt2tags, Microsoft Word docx, LibreOffice ODT, EPUB, or Haddock markup
  • To: not only each of these, but various HTML formats, word

It took some time, but I am getting a feel for css.

With this basic design I have to work in css variables and then figure out how to generate the design from Racket's Scribble and/or Emacs org-mode. It will be convenient to have a script that takes three words and generates the yantra-like yingyang symbol with works that limit each other to define another word. I get the feeling that this approach is what makes the writings of Camus, Castoriadis, and Weill interesting.

It's been a few weeks since I got the idea of playing with some of the Opposition/Harmony/Balance ideas I see in Camus, Castoriadis and Weil. I can't get shape-outside to work in Firefox yet, or it might be mistakes in my css. But it was good to get started learning to use the css for border-radius and z-index and get curved shapes to work... I had to look at two or three different yingyang in html/css examples and adapt them. None of the examples were quite w... show more
