Hola amigos y amigas de las redes libres, me interesa saber cómo se trabaja con foros en Hubzilla?? Cómo puedo crear uno? Saludos

Introduction

It may be a bit late, but I think I should do the #introduction thingy.

I've used #Twitter for almost 9 years, but I dislike it for the same reasons I dislike #Google, #Facebook and other big commercial data harvesters. I've run my own DNS, web, mail, chat and other servers for some 15 years, so I decided to get "my own Facebook and Twitter" as well.

After having tried #Diaspora, #Friendica, #Hubzilla and #Mastodon, I'm now settling for Hubzilla. It may look a bit awkward and clunky when compared with Mastodon, but it does everything it should do, including talking to pretty much the entire world.

So... You'll still see me on Twitter (WoefdramCX), and I'll keep my Mastodon account open for now, but this one here is "my" account.

Friendica (387/3487)
diaspora (297/663226)
red (6/81)
hubzilla (281/8895)
GNU Social (124/1390)
StatusNet (9/84)
Mastodon (2700/2121566)
pleroma (496/31310)
socialhome (4/1019)
ganggo (1/30)

#federation #fediverse #friendica #hubzilla #Mastodon #socialhome #pleroma #ganggo #diaspora #GNUSocial

Testing goes on. I now use #Hubzilla and #Mastodon, but I expect one of those to be only temporary. For now it's nice to see that I can participate in the #Fediverse from 2 different pieces of software.

Who knew the #Zot protocol (#Hubzilla, #Zap ) was named after the sound made by the anteater in B.C. comic strip?
eats ants with a sticky, elastic tongue and a ZOT! sound

Does someone here use #freedombox, and is it possible/ does it make sense to install a #hubzilla instance on Freedombox?

Hubzilla 4.2 in a nutshell
We are pretty close to branch out Hubzilla 4.2RC. Here is a summary of changes:

1. We have merged the Events and CalDAV Calendar frontends. The Events and CalDAV apps have been deprecated in favour of the Calendar app which now comprehends both.

2. We have revived the threaded comments feature. If the feature is enabled from the conversation tools, it is possible to directly comment on comments. The timeline view will remain flattened in the Hubzill... show more

I have been experimenting again
This is my animated interpretation of the Fediverse.
As far as I could ascertain the logos are in keeping with open source software and can be shared but if this is not the case with any network please let me know and I can put a neutral image in its place.

Certain things may be incorrect, after all I’m only a new boy here so this animation can be modified, the hard work has been done and this is just the first attempt.

All my animations can be downloaded and used in any way you like

Side-by-Side comparison of photo management with Hubzilla and Friendica

Both these social networks have some basic photo and album management. But neither is a proper photo management service so you won’t find advanced manipulation.

Both will upload photos into albums. Friendica has proper shown drag-and-drop and whilst I got Hubzilla once to accept a drag-and-drop it failed after that (there is no shown area for drag-and-drop on Hubzilla). Both will allow photo uploads with no status post being generated.

Friendica allows you to add an album on its own whilst Hubzilla wants albums created during the actual photo upload, Friendica also allows you to edit album names whilst I could see no function like this on Hubzilla.

After uploading both allowed a photo edit to include its caption, rotation, and tagging. Hubzilla allows location to be allowed or removed whilst Friendica by default disabled/strips metadata you could opt to allow it in the settings, but not seemingly per photo.

Viewers can like or dislike photos for both services, and neither display EXIF info.

For file types both allow jpg and png basic images bu... show more

Setup my own hosted Friendica and Hubzilla Social Network nodes for comparison

Both of these social networks are powerful in their own right in terms of not just detailed profiles and blog posting, but also have photo galleries, calendars, messaging, integration with Twitter and other networks, and of course federated posts across Diaspora, Mastodon, GNUSocial, each other, and also other networks.

What I was showing in the attached photo is the profile view of each (Friendica on top and Hubzilla below it) and more specifically how my auto-imported (mirrored) RSS feed gets imported. Both import the text fine but Hubzilla does better in terms of perfectly displaying the post along with its image.

I hear some asking what is Friendica or Hubzilla? Essentially I'm hosting my own "Facebook" which my friends and family (or I could open to the public) could use just like Facebook but without adverts or privacy intrusions. One difference here is various people host their own "nodes" but anyone on any of the nodes can follow someone at a different node as if it is all one big hosting platform. This gives flexibility for different rules and functionality at... show more

Finally got my own Hubzilla Node setup

Finally got my own node setup at https://hubzilla.gadgeteerza.co.za/. It is not for public registrations (yet at least) as I'm testing a lot of things out that frustrated me with other hosted nodes where some things were disabled. This node channel (Hubzilla account) should be able to be followed from Friendica, Mastodon, Hubzilla, Diaspora or GnuSocial accounts by adding gadgeteer@hubzilla.gadgeteerza.co.za as a contact.

It is hosted on my own VPS droplet at Digital Ocean so should at least also scale. Unlike my managed hosting elsewhere I can scale this up, I can run scripts and fix addons at OS level, etc. I created a new domain name to test setting up the domain and SSL, so that I did not disturb my main website and photo album hosting and links.

If this works out well, I'll migrate my other services over with the domain name so that everything stays linked everywhere.

I was hoping to install Friendica originally but as it is not yet supported in Webuzo/Softacuous scripts I went with Hubzilla,... show more

Awesome, #Hubzilla needs more bicycles!

@Birne Helene Based on a recent post from an irritated Diaspora G+ refugee, it seems that new Diasporans are tired of hearing it--and I am surely tired of repeating it--but here goes one more shot ... that thing that you wished #Diaspora had, #Friendica and #Hubzilla already have it (along with the ability to stayed connected to all of your Diaspora friends) . Today's version of this reminder: RSS and Atom feeds.

Here another IMO great list of #mastodon instances with description:

As to which platform to choose ... had I not overlooked that #hubzilla can reach #diaspora as well as the #activitypub network I'd have gone for #hubzilla instead of #mastodon ... well, I might move to #hubzilla eventually.
