Wikileaks founder Julian Assange not going to be executed

The process of moving Assange out of the Ecuadorian Embassy started a year ago, on March 7, 2018, when the Ecuadorians made their first request to the U.K.: a letter asking for written assurances that the U.K. would not extradite Assange to a country where he could face the death penalty, according to the Ecuadorian Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo.

The Latin American country said it has spent $10 million on Assange, including medical expenses, legal counsel, food and laundry since 2012 when Assange first sought asylum from Sweden where he was the subject of a rape investigation – an inquiry he has claimed was politically motivated. Prosecutors in Sweden on Thursday announced they intended to re-open the investigation.

Grenell then contacted the U.S Justice Department to see if he could provide assurances that the U.S. government would not seek the death penalty. According to the senior U.S. official, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein consented. That enabled

Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno alleges Assange of espionage

President Moreno - who came to power in 2017 - said of the decision to end Assange's seven-year stay in the embassy: "Any attempt to destabilise is a reprehensible act for Ecuador, because we are a sovereign nation and respectful of the politics of each country."
First they said that it was his bad behaviour inside the embassy that led to his sack, and now, Sr. Moreno thinks that he was spying? It wouldn't be anythin surprising since Wikileaks' format is to expose official data that is held secret, and I don't believe that he grew partisan due to his hideaway inside this embassy. Maybe he really has tried to expose Ecuadorian documents, who knows?
"I think the first thing to say is Ecuador has been making some pretty outrageous allegations over the past few days to justify what was an unlawful and extraordinary act in allowing British police to come inside an embassy," she said.

May deliberately places «Festival of Britain» in year of the Irish civil war's 100th anniversary

What is now the Irish republic became the Irish Free State in 1922, while Northern Ireland remained part of the UK. A civil war erupted among Irish nationalists over the remaining links with Britain and raged for a year. Sunder Katwala, the report’s author, said: “Holding a festival of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2022, on the centenary of Ireland’s partition and civil war, would be the worst possible timing. It is only likely to heighten tensions between communities – and that’s before we know Brexit’s implications for the border. Right across the UK, a festival so closely associated with Brexit may only reinforce divides when it could be bridging them.”
I don't even believe that her announcement in this centenary event was a simple coincidence. I mean, why would you announce to hold such a festival in three years, where suddenly, public figures have to remind her that it would correla... show more

On the book Assange clutched onto when being arrested

Looking frail after seven years in his cramped embassy quarters, Assange emerged and pointedly held out a copy of ‘Gore Vidal: History of The National Security State (Includes Vidal on America)’.

The book immediately drew attention given Assange’s long-running battles with those who wield power and seek to protect powerful interests, and Vidal’s musings on the same topics. The U.S. Justice Department accuses Assange of conspiring with Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer at the Pentagon; his defenders, including whistleblower Edward Snowden, called Assange’s arrest a grave blow to press freedom.

After Assange’s copy of the book was spotted, the Real News Network posted a series of Jay’s interviews with Vidal from 2007. They cover power, public information, politics and more, and include Vidal’s assertion that President Harry Truman decided, after the Second World War, to make a ready-made enemy out of J

Four further pieces on Julian Assange's arrest and extradition, and what it means for journalism

1. Task & Purpose:

London police were invited into the embassy at Ecuador's request — Assange finally pissed them off enough — and the cops subsequently hauled out Old Man WikiLeaks and threw him into a waiting police van.
Pissing him off means that he didn't care to pay his own fees, not cleaning on his own, and not taking care of his cat but telling the employees inside the embassy to do that. He behaved as if he was on his vacations in a hotel, while he was a persecuted criminal hiding inside the embassy.
After his arrest, the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed charges against him, which amount to "conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer" — stemming from his 2010 conversations with then-Army Pfc. Bradley Manning.

Does Julian Assange seriously face death penalty amid extradition to UK?

(Normally, I couldn't care less for such ridiculous claims, especially when they are uttered by reporters of Russia Today, a Kremlin-controlled proxy news station for people who only see an opponent state oppressed by the US-led Western elite. But since I have seen some talking heads here on the Diaspora who have got enough influence to feed their fellowship with such some information, I guess that it's worth to prove them wrong. Feel free to read the article)
The claim that was made:
In her next Telegram post, Simonyan asserted: “Kindly Ecuador, which today surrendered Assange to the police, demanded that the British not extradite him to the country where he faces death penalty – i.e. the States. A few years ago Assange told me the UK will extradite him to Sweden and [from]Sweden to the U.S. Precisely where he is under the threat of the death penalty.”

SC judge Brett Kavanaugh to teach American George Mason U. in Runnymede, England

The judge, who faced a tempestuous and hugely divisive confirmation process last year over sexual assault allegations stemming from his youth, has been hired by George Mason University to teach the course.

The Virginia college, located in the outskirts of Washington DC, has appointed him to teach a law course on the origins and creation of the US constitution, the university confirmed on 27 March and the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.
How would he continue to do his job in the Supreme Court when he (temporarily?) resided in England to teach the students in England the American Constitution? I mean, would he then do his job via video conferences? A virtual participation in fron of court?
There, four students wrote an op-ed in the Harvard Law Record, saying that an “opportunity to learn about the supreme court might not be equally available to women because many will self-select out of a class taught by a credibly accused s

No April Fools: England planned to detonate nuclear bomb in channel tunnel to cut ties to European continent

What exactly is the Government hoping to achieve from negotiations that have begun with Theresa May making veiled threats about withdrawing security cooperation? And, if after such a promising start things turned horribly sour, what are we going to do if our relationship with the rest of Europe breaks down irretrievably?

But an atomic bomb would be “100 per cent effective” at ensuring a “totally irreversible total collapse, rupture [of]tunnel and sea bed to cause total flooding and complete collapse of part of tunnel”.
The more I read, the more I believe this is just an April Fools joke. Oh, who knows... I would even believe Boris Johnson would make up such a plan just to tell the world that Brexit meant Brexit.
Because, they argued, would it really be acceptable: “For overt preparations to be made to destroy our only link with France and the remainder of the Contine

How many people contributed to the epic poem «Beowulf»?

Using a statistical approach known as stylometry, which analyzes everything from the poem’s meter to the number of times various combinations of letters show up in the text, Krieger and his colleagues found new evidence that “Beowulf” is the work of a single author. The study is described in an April 8 paper published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour.
Those computers can tell us quite a lot, I must admit. We should use them more often in academic research. I guess that we could get a lot more of our work done with these mysterious machineries.
“We looked at four broad categories of items in the text,” Krieger said. “Each line has a meter, and many lines have what we call a sense pause, which is a small pause between clauses and sentences similar to the pauses we typically mark with punctuation in modern English. We also looked at aspects of word choice.

“The handwriting is different,” Krieger s
