This monitor would turn on and then a few seconds later the backlight would turn off. This has been a fairly common issue I've come across. Opened it up and found two of the capacitors were bulging so I ordered new ones from Amazon. $24 for a 50 pack of the one and a 200 pack containing 13 values (one of which was the other one). After a quick and easy solder job, the monitor now works perfectly again and only has a few scratches in the plastic to show it was ever opened. Another monitor saved from the trash heap. Plus I now have enough spare capacitors to repair many more (as long as the values match what I've got in my bins). 😁

When I read this article about "vacuum" channel transistors I was excited, back then.
And on re-reading it, I am excited again!
They are very robust and capable of withstanding radiation and heat to higher levels than previously possible. And they are blazingly fast.

Imagine what kind of new detectors can be built with transistors that can switch at THz rates...

Xperi Corporation has announced a new IC package bonding technology for semiconductor devices which they've named DBI Ultra.
DBI Ultra is the successor to Invensas’s DBI wafer-to-wafer hybrid bonding, which has been widely employed in the production of smartphone image sensors. DBI stands for direct bond interconnect, an apt name for a method that directly places two layers of semiconductor wafers together "at room temperature without any pressure or adhesives" between them. According to Invensas, DBI has been impactful for various applications, including mobile devices, IoT devices, and various uses for industrial, automotive, and medical industries.

Does anybody here have any experience with PCB's ordered from Aisler?
I decided today to give it a shot and see what their quality is like. I hope the delivery time into Europe for reasonable priced PCB's is shorter than PCB's ordered from China or the US.

They accept KiCAD's standard pcb files, so, if you are using KiCAD, there is no need to convert the design into Gerbers.
Let's see what they will deliver.

Well, well, well.
I was playing around with a 74LS14 Schmitt-trigger IC and noticed some unexpected effects.
It appeared the input current was about 5,4mA@5V. The datasheet for this device mentions a max input current of 0.1mA@7V. Even the 7414 is supposed to be drawing less than 5,4mA of input current: max 1mA.

No wonder my little oscillator did not oscillate! ;-)

Beware, people. You might be caught off guard with some clones. I have absolutely no recollection of how this part got in my parts box, I had only one in stock.

Hi @Dhan Hurley this sounds really interesting. As you mentioned it provides a 5 base logic compared to our current 2 base logic. I don't know much about that topic, but I read an article about a Chinese team who built a quantic computer that outperforms all we know currently. If I remember well it was able to provide 3 base logic. I assume even on a 2 base logic, a quantic technology would be faster right? What would be the benefit of an analogic solution like this?

Hey everyone, I’m not exactly #newhere, because I've been lurking and commenting for a while, but I think it is time to get this first post done. Why do so many devices come with a power brick that has equal length mains and device cables. If they mains cable was short and the device cable was long it would sit on the floor. If the mains cable was long and the device cable was short it would sit on the desk.

But no, it has to come with two cables carefully designed to ensure the only practical positioning for the power brick is in mid air.

Decisions decisions. When soldering a row of identical resistors do you stick one of them the other way around (so the stripes don't match) just to drive someone nuts in the future.

More annoyingly I have an entire CPU board assembled except for one ******** 1nf capacitor I'm going to have to order. I hate it when that happens.
