Normally I try and sway away from American holiday’s but since this one is considered a protest I will share..🚫 ➡️ 🍖 🥩 🍗 🥓 🙅‍♂️ 🙅‍♀️

Today is the Great American Meatout which was launched in 1985 to protest a U.S. Senate resolution proclaiming National Meat week. It has since grown into one of the world’s largest annual grass roots diet education campaigns. The date of March 20 marks the first day of spring, symbolizing renewal and life-changing opportunity.

The occasion is observed each year by hundreds of activists in the U.S. and two dozen other countries with food samplings, leafleting, information tables, and other educational events. Visitors are asked to pledge that they will kick the meat habit on March 20 (first day of spring). Special Meatout proclamations have been issued by 40 governors and 47 mayors of large American cities.

It’s a great day to quit #... show more

Shaman's Dream

© 2012 by Richard Welker

The collective healing crisis that is climate chaos is rapidly escalating in intensity and this escalation is beginning to dominate our awareness with a subtle state of alarm. In the process it is turning into an inescapable and existential spiritual/ physical ordeal that will likely bring a renewed focus on three essential questions: Who Am I? Why Am I Here? What Is My Relationship To The Cosmos?

In what way is this crisis beginning to stimulate a dawning sense that just maybe, there is a super-normal intelligence at work throughout the entire 4.543 billion years of earth's evolution? What then, is the real trajectory of climate change? What is the universe trying to tell us via this crisis? What is the purpose of any healing crisis that brings us to our knees and challenges our core identity? Are we to remain in denial and keep trying to either blame someone else or fix o... show more

Climate change: Water shortages in England within 25 years

In around 20 to 25 years, England will reach the "jaws of death" - the point at which, unless it takes action to change things, it will not have enough water to supply it's needs.

Greta Thunberg's Statement on Climate Delayerism

Over 1,5 million students have been on school strike March 15. They proved that it does matter what you do and that no one is too small to make a difference. Yesterday, Greta Thunberg directed a statement to the people who want the students to go back to school. It's published exclusively on Facebook, so I present it in the Fediverse (with reference to the original source) for your convenience:
On Friday March 15th 2019 well over 1,5 million students school striked for the climate in 2083 places in 125 countries on all continents.
The favorite argument here in Sweden (and everywhere else…) is that it doesn’t matter what we do because we are all too small to make a difference. Friday’s manifestation was the biggest day of global climate action ever, according to 350.org. It happened because a few schoolchildren from small countries like Sweden, Belgium and Switzerland decided not to go to school because nothing was being done about the climate crisis. We proved that it does matter what you do and that no one is too small to make a difference.

US, SA and Brazil derail UN resolution to regulate geo-engineering

Switzerland and nine other nations originally asked the U.N. Environment Programme for guidance on possible future governance options and analysis of the implications of geoengineering, but they agreed to substantially reduce the scope of their resolution in hopes that the United States, Saudi Arabia and Brazil would allow it to move forward.

Besides Switzerland, the motion was backed by Burkina Faso, Micronesia, Georgia, Liechtenstein, Mali, Mexico, Montenegro, New Zealand, Niger and Senegal. Other parties, including some European nations and Bolivia, argued for even stronger language for using caution in approaching geoengineering. None of them opposed the final resolution.

“It seems to me inconsistent to say, on the one hand, that global warming is the biggest problem that humanity faces, and then go on to say, on the other hand, but we shouldn’t even do research on SRM because it may pose risks,” he said. “Either climate change is the biggest ... show more

Air Carbon Captureโ€™s Scale Problem: 11 Astrodomes For A Ton Of CO2

Air carbon capture continues to get written about as if it is an interesting technology that will play a significant role in reducing global warming. But most articles fail miserably to put the technology in context. A new study or press release comes out, and a bunch of sites publish articles which make it sound as if global warming is practically solved.

For the most part, carbon capture is a fig leaf funded by fossil fuel money to allow them to continue to mine fossil fuels and sell them. In some cases, it’s funded by them to provide a source of CO2 to pump into existing tapped out oil wells so that the sludge liquefies and can be pumped out and sold. And many researchers keep plugging away because it’s an interesting scientific challenge to them.

There are three problems with carbon capture and sequestration — capture, shipping and long-term disposal.

The smallest unit of measure of CO2 for useful discussions of carbon capture and sequestration is the metric ton. That’s a 1,000 kilograms or about 2,200 lbs. A kilogram is a 1,000 grams.... show more

Floods cause Midwestern emergency

“Many residents and communities across our state have been responding to flooding that has impacted homes, businesses, and cities and towns across Wisconsin," Evers said in a statement. "The warm temperatures and rain the last few days have caused much of the heavy snowpack and ice to melt resulting in flooding, ice jams, and rivers and creeks to rise."

It's Official: There's Nothing We Can Do Now to Stop Arctic Temperature Rise

No matter what we do, the Arctic of the future is going to be poles apart from the one we know today.

A new paper from the UN reveals that even if we pull the plug on all carbon emissions tomorrow, our hands are ultimately tied; the Arctic region is still going to warm by up to 5 degrees Celsius come the end of the century.

The reality is, we've simply emitted too many greenhouses gases, and now there's no escaping the consequences.
