In case you missed it, #Carnet is a free open alternative to Google Keep. It lets you write and sync notes (including rich text, audio and images) on your phone and computer:

https://getcarnet.app

You can follow Carnet on the ActivityPub Fediverse here:
@Carnet@framapiaf.org

It syncs through #Nextcloud and #Owncloud, and there's an official public Nextcloud instance for people who don't have their own cloud:
https://carnet.live

The app is available on Google Play and #FDroid

#GoogleKeep #Alternatives #DeleteGoogle #NoteTaking #FLOSS #FOSS

Nice, checking it out.

Ps. Would share your posts if you didn't try to delete everything on the internet ;)

"Ps. Would share your posts if you didn’t try to delete everything on the internet ;)"

Eh...? :)

The "#DeleteXXXXX" hashtags are a bit annoying, aggressive and counter-productive. Let's just build not destroy?

Since when quitting Google became synonym with destroying everything on the internet?

Since when did "Delete" mean "Quit"? :P

Ah, the hashtag. That's there just to help people find posts about alternatives to Google.

It just means delete in the sense of removing an app from your phone.

It's delete Google as in delete your Google account, not wipe Google's servers clean.

This is a great idea. Very impressive.

Well, it just looks negative, but possibly it's just me 😁 I like to fight for something, not against something.

@Jason Robinson 🐍🍻 Just to add, I'm trying to be as pragmatic and user-friendly as possible in getting people to switch to alternatives. For example, there are lots of Google Play links on switching.social because this is how pretty much all non-technical people get their Android apps.

But at the same time I also have a section telling people how to switch to F-droid so they can avoid Google Play if they want to (and if they are able to).

Switching is a mixture of fighting for and against: for privacy and against those who erode privacy (i.e. Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc).

Well, it just looks negative, but possibly it’s just me 😁 I like to fight for something, not against something.
To fight for something, you must fight against the opposition.

Only if you don't believe in what you're fighting for.

OK but it's a tag. It needs to summarise. You can have a bunch of perplexing tags that noob users won't understand and don't convey the message, like #JoinFriendica #JoinDiaspora #JoinGnuSocial #JoinMastodon (why should I join if I have facebook already? pass!) or you can have just one that resumes all of that and conveys the message "go look for alternatives", like #DeleteFacebook. We wouldn't gain much in terms of privacy and mass surveillance if everyone started using diaspora on top of using Facebook, would we? You're really making a moot point, DeleteXYZ is perfectly fine.

Imagine if the occupywallstreet movement was instead called sitinthepark...

I'm trying the app, it looks great so far! It syncs with nextcloud without problems, setup was straightforward!
Only problem I found is that if you deny access to camera then the app gets stuck in an infinite permission request loop and it won't take any input anymore.

(why should I join if I have facebook already? pass!)
The notion that one social media platform is enough for all use cases has always been a mystery to me. I use my own Socialhome, but also Mastodon, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. They each offer something that the others cannot. I mean gamers don't just play one game. Usually they have a collection that they play for different reasons.

Provide a reason and people will use your software. Try to just fight against Facebook for example by providing "an alternative" and you will lose. They have billions of dollars to spend, after all :)
We wouldn't gain much in terms of privacy and mass surveillance if everyone started using diaspora on top of using Facebook, would we?
I'm not sure that would even be a good thing. If everyone started using Diaspora it would likely be dominated by large instances offering adverts and mining of personal data. I'm pretty sure no one in the current Diaspora community would benefit from everyone who uses Facebook using Diaspora.

Everyone would benefit if we all use decentralized services and networks instead of Facebook, Twitter, etc. Freedom needs to win out in the end. There is no place for Facebook. Google can be forgotten. The more people who delete their accounts on these big sites and stop supporting them, the more we send the message that we value freedom.

I'm having some issues with this app, sometimes I mark things as done in my todo list, but the next time I open the app they're back and unchecked :(

@Michele Santullo The developer is very keen to hear feedback, if you have an ActivityPub account you can communicate with them at https://framapiaf.org/@Carnet

I guess I do, mastodon is activitypub amirite?

@Michele Santullo - Yes, Mastodon is ActivityPub. If you go to that link above, you should be able to click on the follow button.
