Sending symbol - consequences?

After sending a post a small paper-plane symbol shows up and the context menu tells me about the progress. That's fine. The only thing I wonder: What are the consequences for me as user? Are there any restrictions while sending (e.g. missing edit-menu)?

ok ... so that means if I do not find the edit-function in the more menu, it is not related to the fact, that the message is still getting send?

Any idea, why edit is not available in this comment?

imho not - I have linked it in the posting above. To me it seems to be a reshared post from mastodon (both the author and the sharer).
